Hairballs

How can I help my cat, Sadie, stop vomiting hairballs and grass? I feed her an indoor formula food, but she still hacks them up regularly. There's nothing worse than stepping in a pile in your bare feet in the dark.

One thing you can do, Hannah, is groom Sadie more to reduce the amount of hair she consumes while grooming herself. Brushing her regularly should be a great help. You may also consider decreasing her opportunities to consume grass—or limit her to just a few blades a day. And, in addition to feeding her a diet that’s intended to help prevent hairballs, you might also purchase an oral product to help hairballs pass through her digestive system rather than being vomited up. Your veterinarian will likely have specific product recommendations for you.
