Birds Who Won't Eat Fresh Fruit

I’ve tried for seven months to get my birds to eat fresh food, but they refuse. How can I get them to start eating what I serve them?

As you’re experiencing, Adrian, it can be very difficult to change a bird’s diet. High-quality, nutritionally complete formulated foods provide your parakeets with good a nutritional base, but this should make up only 50% to 75% of their diets—the remainder of your pets' daily nutrition should come from grains and vegetables.

Here are a couple of tips you can try to get your birds to eat fresh food. Serve the food in dishes that are familiar to them. If it’s possible, have them watch another bird eating the food or have them watch you eat (or pretend to eat) it. Don’t give up—be consistent and persistent in your efforts.
