Trying to Eat Hair, Keys, and Necklaces

Why do horses always trying to eat dangling objects, like hair, keys and necklaces? There was even one memorable experience with my earrings! Yikes! It’s not only my horses—I've seen other people's horses do this, too. My horse went after my hair when it was loose, so I braided it into two braids and he still went after me! What am I doing wrong?

You are certainly not doing anything wrong, Rhonda! Actually, I would say you are doing lots of things right—which is causing horses to perceive you as pleasant to interact and play with. Some horses are more conscious of physical space than others, but the majority will not mouth without some social cues of permission. Consider yourself honored, but be sure to wear a hat and no jewelry around the barn!
