Horseplay

I have four miniature horses and they love to run and play with each other, but they don't always feel like running around. How can I get them to play in a more low-key fashion? I’d also like to make them some homemade toys, but I need some ideas. Thanks!

Love those minis! Toys would be great additions to their lives, Shelby. Go to your local supermarket and ask if you can have their large white buckets, the kind that industrial cake icing comes in. Be sure to use only buckets that held food items, not cleaners, paint, spackle, etc. Also, if there is any metal on them (like a handle), remove it before using them as toys.

Drill a few holes in the buckets—just big enough to drop out their favorite treats—and place them around the paddock. Try hanging one or two, and put the others on the ground. It makes for great fun! You might also wish to check out some other options for enrichment that we have recommended for others in this column.
