Does Riding Hurt Horses?

Does it hurt horses to have people ride them?

If a horse is healthy and is of the proper size for person riding, then there should be no discomfort for the horse. Fortunately, there are some really clear behavioral cues to let one know if a horse is uncomfortable or in pain. Pinned ears, spinning and scooting, and a crinkled nose are all signs of discomfort that should be investigated.
