Mark your calendars! We’re gearing up to celebrate Nickelodeon’s Worldwide Day of Play on September 21. Every year, in September, Nickelodeon shuts down its channels for three hours to encourage kids, parents and pets to get outside and play for a fun-filled day of fitness.
This year, the ASPCA is joining Nickelodeon for the official Worldwide Day of Play celebration in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. We’ll have fun activities that feature furry friends and Nickelodeon’s brand new series, "PAW Patrol." Want to join the fun? Enter our sweepstakes for a chance to win a trip for four to Nickelodeon’s Worldwide Day of Play in NYC. (Update: Sweepstakes is now closed!)
If you can’t make it to Brooklyn, there is still plenty you can do to celebrate Worldwide Day of Play at home with your pets. After all, furry friends need ample physical exercise, too. Here are some ASPCA-approved workouts that are great for dogs, cat and their pet parents.
Go jogging, swimming or romping at the dog park—they are all great ways to burn excess energy. Healthy adult dogs need at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise twice a day.
Engage in some structured games, like fetch and tug of war. They’re not only great exercise but also teach your pooch impulse control and strengthen the bond between you.
Get kitty fit with rousing play sessions, such as chase and fetch, with furry toys, small balls or toy mice.
Teach your cat a new trick. Felines are quick studies and can learn practical skills like coming when called, sitting up, rolling over and even using the toilet!
