2009 Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Photo Contest
This October, we put out a call for photos of your pooch romping with some of his favorite palsother than you, that isand you did not disappoint. We saw pictures of pooches hanging with birds, horses, kitties, other pooches and, yes, even amphibians. Our judges had the hard work of choosing only five winners from among the landslide of fabulous photos and here they are!

Stella and Lucy
Submitted by Karen Owens
Stella was “deposited” at the gates of S.T.A.R. Ranch, an animal sanctuary in Western N.C. Soon Lucy, an abused Belgian, arrived severely malnourished--her hooves were literally falling off. Lucy knows she can trust us now, though. She allows her feet to be worked on, and it’s great!

Ciola and Ellie
Submitted by Karen Bergeson
We adopted Ellie (kitty) just a few days after getting Ciola (puppy). They became best friends fast, and though Ciola did not treat Ellie very tenderly at first, Ellie just loved her to pieces.

Maggie and Dieter

Maggie and Dieter met just this year. Dieter, who loves dogs, began licking Maggie, and Maggie got used to it. She began trying to get him to play by barking and jumping around him.

Nino and Coti
Submitted by Yosly M
Coti is a Quaker parrot and ever since we took her into our family a year ago, she’s been following Nino around. She loves his company! Every time I take Nino out for his walks, Coti goes crazy and starts yelling for attention, so I have to take her, too. They are always together...it is just beautiful.

Robin and Millie
Submitted by Michelle Schwerdtfeger
Robin and Millie were both adopted from different shelters. When we brought Millie home, she was very scared and adopted Robin as her pal. Now, Millie will meow for the dog to come over and get her face washed. If Millie quits and Robin wants her to continue, Robin nudges her with her nose.
