A woman from Chickasha, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to three municipal misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and abandonment after her Greyhound, Sweetheart, was found wounded and starving in the woman's home.

On August 12, local authorities found Sweetheart attached to a cable that had cut her skin down to the bone. She appeared to be starving and officers on the scene found a bowl of water that was full of critters and green slime.

Bethany Gobert, who owned the canine, told KFOR.com that she did not know about the dog's condition and had difficulty keeping the dog's weight at a healthy level. She said the incident was an accident, and that nothing like this had ever happened before.

"We condone this kind of behavior, then wonder why our children and elderly are abused and neglected," Lori Robinson, a local animal welfare worker, told the news source. "It sends a signal to say 2018;That's OK. As long as it's not intentional, then you won2019;t have to pay for it.2019;"

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals urges anyone who believes they have witnessed animal abuse to contact local authorities and provide them with a detailed account of the incident.
