On August 26, a Middletown, New Jersey, woman allegedly tied her boyfriend2019;s dog, Marlin, to her car and began to drive home. The eight-month-old puppy was dragged along during the ride, scraping his hind legs raw, wearing down his toenails and injuring his front shoulder.

According to the Asbury Park Press, when the authorities stopped Stephanie Sciscione, 31, they asked her why the canine had been tied to the car. She informed them that the dog had run away from home and was too muddy to put in the vehicle.

Marlin was taken to the Red Bank Animal Hospital for treatment and will soon be transferred to the Monmouth County SPCA to find a better home.

Sciscione was charged with two counts of animal cruelty and her court date is set for September 13.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals encourages witnesses to immediately report signs of animal abuse. Pets who have been abused generally show either emotional or physical trauma.

This can include malnutrition, cowering or erratic behavior and obvious scars or other wounds. If possible, individuals should take a picture of the evidence they encounter and send it to authorities.
