AnimalFriends.org reports that neighbors alerted the authorities to a possible animal hoarding situation at a residence in Eastern Montana, where a single resident lived without access to a phone or car.
The animal rescue officers who arrived at the home said that the property had some of the worst living conditions they had ever encountered. A total of 95 dogs were rescued from the home on September 1st, according to TheDenverChannel.com.
The canines were so poorly socialized that most cowered when the authorities took them away. The news source suggests that they were nearly feral due to the isolation in which they lived.
"These dogs, for the first time, are realizing what a human is and what outside is and what fresh air is," animal rescue officer Rowdy Shaw told the news provider. The dogs were sent to four different animal shelters in the region, where their chances of being put up for adoption will be evaluated.
The ASPCA reports that animal hoarders are often unaware of the pain and problems they are causing their pets. For this reason, individuals who know a hoarder may want to gently tell him or her that it is acceptable to request assistance from local shelters in caring for the animals.
