Breaking News: Dog Fighting Bust in Wisconsin

The ASPCA is currently on the ground assisting the Milwaukee Police Department and the District Attorney of Milwaukee County with a multi-site dog fighting raid in the City of Milwaukee. Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission is transporting, sheltering and caring for the dogs.

Today, eight search warrants were executed at eight crime scenes, where 23 suspected fighting dogs were seized. Investigators also discovered blood on basement walls as well as other evidence of dog fighting, including treadmills, wound treatment supplies and muscle building supplements.

Experts from the ASPCA Field Investigations & Response (FIR) team are on hand to assist with evidence collection and documentation. The ASPCA has been assisting local authorities with this dog fighting investigation for nearly a year.

Dog fighting is a felony in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The ASPCA is committed to eradicating the blood sport. We have designated April 8 as the first National Dog Fighting Awareness Day to advance the conversation about dog fighting, and to encourage animal lovers across the country to take action against this brutal form of cruelty.

Please join the movement and take a stand. And stay tuned to ASPCA.org/blog for more information about this developing case.

What a good and decent service you've done to those neglected and abandoned dogs. Best luck in your employment endeavors, Cami.

I hope that changes. If charges are never filed, could the dogs be returned to owner? That would be tragic. These cases must be completed from beginning to end. Hope the "16" being held are well cared for, vetted, etc. Have they really been held for 5 years. Is it a comfort at all that they are not being used as fighting machines? Maybe a little. We must change laws so that animals are more than property and have rights.

Kathy

These bastards who are involved in any kind of dog fighting should be EXECUTED !! That's right-------EXECUTED !!!!!!!! They're murderers in my book !!!

Harry

WTF?...maybe they should have left them where they were...they would probably be dead by now and out of misery. Seriously,5 years? Have any of these dogs been determined to be non-aggressive,or rehabilitated? This situation is almost more disturbing than the fighting rings. Again, WTF?

Cheryl Spruiell...

That is a terrible law! On top of that, any dog being "held" in a kennel environment becomes nervous and anxious. "Humanely disposed of", REALLY!!!!!! In Texas a dog can be adopted out by the ACC as long as it is not a danger or is dying. Glad I don't live in WI. Poor animals.

Jana

I think "humanely disposing" the owner is a GREAT idea!

Carol

So discouraging . . . will never comprehend how anyone could be so cruel to animals.

This is wonderful that they (ASPCA) has finally gotten here. But what about the dogs that were found I believe it was 2 years ago and were being held in solitary. The people were free, but the dogs no longer needed for evidance were still in cages.
Are they still alive, I have asked the news dept and no response. Or are they part of this investigation, rescued from fighting but locked up for over 2 years. ???
