The U.S. Senate has just passed the Farm Bill, a huge piece of federal legislation that is renewed every five years. While many parts of the Farm Bill time out after five years, other included provisions are enrolled into U.S. law permanently—and this year, that includes a new measure that is going to be a game-changer in our efforts to end animal fighting.

Congress added crucial elements of the Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act into the Farm Bill, making it a federal offense to knowingly attend an organized animal fight and imposing additional penalties for bringing a child to animal fights. Violators face up to one year in prison for attending a fight and up to three years in prison for bringing a child to a fight.

The House- and Senate-passed Farm Bill excludes the dangerous King Amendment.

The Farm Bill will now be transmitted to President Obama, who has indicated that he will sign it quickly.

Good! Anyone who thinks animal fighting is entertainment should be punished.

Agreed. Completely.

People take free pets from Craig's list for these fights. Lately, there have been dogs stolen weekly from people's yards and we don't know why. A guy was caught in the act of taking a dog while the owner was home. The dog was retuned 3 days later after a lot of media coverage and it was poisoned. So very sad!

I agree. Dogs don't want to fight!!!

I would execute people like this guy who stole and poisoned the dog! Why is this guy's like worth anymore than an animals? What has he done to make the world a better place? If you think about it logically, the world would be a better place if you permanently removed people like this "guy" from our population.

You are so right. What kind of pathetic person does this kind of thing. God gave us animals to care for, not to abuse.

I agree! I have tried to imagine sitting in a dank room surrounded by bloody walls the cries of injured scared animals and cheers from onlookers and I just can't get my head around the type of person that could get enjoyment from this. Whether it's dog fighting or cock fighting, it's unfathomable. I just don't understand it. To think that many of these people are raising children terrifies me. I can't think about it too long. It fills me with both, rage and overwhelming sadness.

What goes around comes around. These people will answer for their transgressions against the innocent...........

Why they are evil is yet another mystery to be solved. Such a sad thing that these loving creatures have to suffer because of the mentally deranged "SO CALLED HUMAN BEING". They must have all suffered abuse in their early childhood to be able to hurt a defenseless animal. God help them.
