We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

In a perfect world these "people" would not only do time, but whatever the abuse or neglect they caused, they would suffer the same.......10 fold!

Thank GOD someone found him in time before it was too late. I'm so glad hes recovering and has the care and love from the clinic to help him. people like whoever threw him should be in front of a firing squad, or thrown from a car themselves. I hope they find whoever did this and they get punished to the fullest extent. love and BIG BIG kisses Joey!!!!!! <3

THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU for taking care of this little puppy Joey - no animal deserves to be treated like this - they give us nothing but unconditional love and this is how people repay them - these people are scumbags and that is saying it nicely.

I am praying for Joey and also praying that the vicious idiot that committed this heinous crime is caught and punished to the extent of the law! What kind of person does things like this?

My thoughts and prayers are with Joey. May GOD take him in his arms to comfort and heal him. I pray he makes a full recovery and finds his "forever home".

I wonder how the people who did this to Joey would like it done to them...How would they like to be thrown out of a car window in a bag...shame on them...

It is so disturbing to read stories like this. Thank goodness for ones like you who will care for these poor animals. About 3 weeks ago, my 84-year-old father was sitting on his porch in Chattaroy, WV, with a friend when a car drove by @ about 35 mph. The car did not even slow down and something was thrown out the window. The friend said that garbage was thrown out and my Dad said "That isn't garbage. That's a kitten." The poor little thing was just sitting in the middle of the road, too scared to even move. It was only about 3-4 weeks old. The friend went out and scooped him up. My brother and his family have taken him in and I visited and saw him last weekend and he is the sweetest little kitten ever. They said he was very scared and shy at first but now he is "Mr. Personality." His name is "Potter". I will never understand why or how people can treat poor little animals so badly.

Get the neanderthals and put 'em under the jail. Get well Joey and I hope you find some kind folks who will help the memory of this treatment subside and disappear for you.

So sorry Joey that people were so mean to you. Such a saddening and heinous act of cruelty. I hope you find a good home soon! Prayers for you with all my heart!
