We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

My heart goes out to Joey, this absolutely disgusting act of cruelty needs to be counteracted by an absolute act of kindness and devotion, I have a loving home with two small min pins and would love the opportunity to change Joey's life for the better, if someone could reach out to me and let me know how to start the process and any special needs Joey might require please do so, I have a huge yard where they will all be able to play together. I am on long island and will take him in.

Disgusting... Makes me so very angry. God bless Joey. Thank God he was saved. Nobody has the right to hurt an innocent animal!

Prayers to the little guy on his fast recovery. The sad thing is this is happening all over the place, and most of these creeps are never caught, and when they are they get a few days in jail, have to pay a fine, and can't own an animal ever or for a certain period of time. Our laws need to be stricter and if people see something wrong they need to report it right away so these creeps are caught. If I ever saw someone do that,I would probably be in jail for hurting the person!

Our first family dog was thrown out of a car in our neighborhood. A lady found him after work and he was crying and had a broken leg so we are assuming they threw him out there. Tiny little guy. Lab chow mix. She couldn't keep him so we took him in after she took him to the vet. We split the bill and our awesome veterinarian took off some costs. I could never imagine throwing Chip out of a moving car. Dogs and puppies especially are so helpless. All they want to do is love you. I hope the people in both these cases feel guilt for the rest of their lives. Animal cruelty is so heartbreaking :(

I wish all the people who were being cruel to any animal be burned alive!! I have no pitty for the human that would do anything to an animal.

Huggs and Kisses Joey. Im sorry this was your introduction into the world.. I hope you heal and find a lovely family, that gives you kisses everyday!!

I just can't understand this, but I know congress needs to understand we have a WAY bigger problem than pit bulls!! We have human monsters out there who hurt defensless puppies and most likely children!! You fight the pitbull and their families, but you let monsters like that run the streets. Guarantee its someone whose seen prison and was let out for some stupid reason!!!

Such a sweet and scared little baby... Prayers for you little guy. I hope the person who did this suffers double the pain and cruelty they inflicted on you.
