We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

This is so very sad but thank God someone saw what happened and this poor baby has a second chance at life and finding that there really are some good people in the world left that will care for him and love him. Thank you so much for what you do for the animals and being their voice.

Has anyone thought to look for fingerprints on the bag Joey was found in?

I will be praying for little Joey. Poor puppy! People are so cruel and I hope the one that did this is punished harshly. Maybe throw them out of a car at a high rate of speed? Makes me sick!!!!!!!

This is horrific! Why do people do this ? This story brought me to tears! I am willing to adopt this little guy and provide a healthy enviroment if Joey is still available for adoption. We live in Colorado, have a 1 year old Red Heeler and 2 cats. We love animals and have a lot of room for more best friends! Let me know what I can do.

Prayers going up for the pup and the person who did this (the person will need them more) - God knows what YOU did.

God bless you wonderful people who found and now are helping this poor creature!! Sad and horrible stories like these make me wonder if the people who did it are so uneducated that they don't realize how easy giving an animal up for adoption is!! Thank you for your wonderful hearts and LOTS and LOTS of love and prayers sent your way to the healthy and positive recuperation of Joey!!

I want to apologize to this poor puppy for the world that he has experienced. I can only wish on the person that did this to Joey experience what Joey has. As you can see Joey, there are good people in this world that will work hard to make sure you have a good life from this time on. This horrible person will be caught and hopefully prosecuted....he/she may meet someone nice in prison to help them along in life.
