We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

How heartless can a human being get? This puppy was harmless to whoever done this and myself hopes and prays they find out who done this.If whomever done this didn't want the puppy it would have been easy to find him a new home.Sad and to know we have cruel people like that in AMERICA.Those are the ones the goverment needs to send off to fight.

My prayers go out to joey and hoping he gets well soon. I hope the people who are responsible for his injuries and abandonment get caught and go to jail for a very long time. Animals do not deserve to be treated in this way at all. They deserve love and caring, and responsible owners.

I hope the sub-human is arrested, tried, & convicted. He/She is sentenced to the maximum. I interviewed women prisoners when I was in Graduate School and they do not take kindly to anyone who hurts a child or an animal. I understand that Men prisoners feel pretty much the same way. I hope that after this person is sent to jail that he is beaten to a pulp. Stories like Joey really get me angry.

i donate to the ASPCA on a monthly basis and all my pets are rescues. i've often questioned whether i should make a career move and get more involved... then i read yet another story like this and remember why i don't... it would take ONE encounter w/ an animal abuser and i'd be sent to prison for life. i'm so grateful for all that have the temperment to fight this fight on a daily basis in a way that is productive for so, so many animals that continue to need their help. i will keep sending money, signing petitions, and taking in and loving as many as i can to support the driven, committed, brave soldiers on the front line. sending so much love to joey xoxoxoxoxo

Get better little man so an awesome family can adopt you and you can live the life you deserve.. Poor little sad what people do to animals.. Breaks my heart...

Awwww he's so pretty who would such a thing. That's crazy you could have easily got rid of it by taking him to a vet or something. But he's to cute to get rid of awww. I hope justice is given soon for poor joey. Get better Joey.

I just dont understand and maybe I really dont wish to and yet I find myself unable to focus properly when I read stories such as this one. How any person or persons could act in such a selfish and horrific way towards one of Gods creatures is beyond me. When they say, "what goes around willcome around" I surely hope that those responsible for this act of cruelty and any other be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Acts of this nature need to be brought to the attention of those who can change the laws out there to include heavy duty jail time for these sick people. Stay strong Joey. You have many who are praying for you and are wishing you the best of a speed recovery.

I wish those involved in any animal cruelty will get brought to justice and pay for such terrible inhuman acts.
