It Takes Two

Jennifer Richmond got a very special gift for her birthday 11 years ago. That day, she visited the ASPCA Adoption Center and adopted “the love of her life,” a special kitty named Nicholas.

“He was a small, shy, black-and-white, six-month-old kitten,” Jennifer recalls. “He has grown into the most lovable and sweetest lap cat you will ever meet.”

The two formed a lasting bond that is still going strong today.

“At 11 years old he still has energy to play, calls for treats and purrs so loud it makes you laugh,” Jennifer says.

A few years ago, Jennifer decided it was time for Nicholas to have a feline friend. She visited the ASPCA Adoption Center once again to look for a cat who would be the perfect buddy for Nicholas. Her search was successful—she found Joey, a “rambunctious, gray, three-month-old kitten with more energy than you can imagine.”

“I wasn't sure how all this energy would work with an older cat, but within days they were fast friends,” Jennifer remembers. “They love each other.”

It’s safe to say Nicholas and Joey are two very lucky cats.

“I can’t imagine life without either of them,” Jennifer says. “I am greeted at the door when I get home, and they cuddle during TV time and find their place on the bed when we go to sleep. I can’t thank the ASPCA enough for rescuing them. You have helped create our special family.”

Thank you for rescuing two cats to be your forever friends. Cats bring so much joy to my life, I am the caretaker of 3 of them who chose me, that I don't know how I could make it through the day without them. Enjoy them, love them, accept the love that they give to you, and thank you again for caring for the cats.

I love dogs and I love cats, but my two cats - both adopted from the Nebraska Humane Society - are gifts from heaven. Both are so loving, which non-cat owners may not understand. Cats are very devoted and loyal to their caregivers if the caregivers are loving and gentle. Dogs get a lot of recognition for those qualities, but we cat owners understand that cats show the same devotion. Loved the testimonial here to the 2 awesome kitties!

Awww. It is great that Nicholas has a wonder person like you. I am sure he appreciates his new friend Joey as well. It is always nice to have a friend of the same species too lol. Very handsome kitties indeed.

Oh, how I would like to be at Jennifer´s place with those two lovable kittens! I lost the love of my life five months ago, a gorgeous cat who was poisoned by an evil person...I still cry for him and have been so depressed and sad around it that it took me so hard to recover. I can not adopt another cat until I move definitively to my new place in another country, but how would I love to get a beautiful black cat with me!

I always have had 2 adopted kitties at a time. They keep each other company, groom and play together. Cats are as social as any dogs but easier due to their "indoor plumbing". I wouldn't trade any of mine for the world
