It’s time to meet your match, people—your four-legged match! Once again the ASPCA is teaming up with dozens of animal shelters across the country for the second-annual ASPCA Mega Match-a-thon! This weekend (October 18-20), nearly 40 animal rescues across the country are joining forces to co-host some epic adoption events. We threw down more than $278,000 in grants to help make it happen.

Last year’s Mega Match-a-thon saw more than 6,100 pets adopted in just one weekend! Can we top that number? Yes, we can!

So what can you do to help? So much! Check it out:

  • First, find out if there’s an adoption event near you this weekend by visiting your local shelter’s website.
  • Second, go to said event and adopt, adopt, adopt! You can also volunteer your time; shelters can always use an extra hand…or four.
  • And, finally, don’t forget to spread the word! Share this article on Facebook and Twitter and make sure everyone makes adoption their first option this weekend and every day of the year. Be sure to follow the hashtag #MegaMatch for event details and updates of pets across America finding new homes!

I did just look at my local adoption sites and couldn't find any mention of a Match-a-thon. I was planning to go cat hunting today anyway and would love to know where in the Boston area there are match-a-thons.

Wonderful event! fyi that @PetHub is giving away free ID tags for the #MegaMatch event (limit 2/person). Go to PetHub.com/aspca and use coupon code: MEGAMATCH in the shopping cart. Have a paw-some weekend! (my pup and cat are both shelter rescues!)

This has been a frustrating night trying to find out where these events are or where to get an application form. What a shame you set this whole thing up and then keep it a secret where to go

I have always been a supporter of ASPCA but I have wasted hours tonight trying to figure out where to go and who will be there this is a disorganized nightmare. What a shame to go to this trouble for the pets only to make it next to impossible to go. Obviously can't go everywhere on another wild goosechase

We found and adopted a wonderful 8 year old Border Collie Mix from the shelter in Monroe, NY. We have named her Tessie and she is a love! Tess will need some work after years of neglect -but she is now under the care of an excellent vet and our love. I just have to say that the manager of the Monroe, NY shelter is the best!!! This shelter - more of a pound - is under funded and in need of a new facility! If anyone knows of funding that could help them out, I know Mike would be very grateful, as would the dogs in his care. Tess thanks you with all her heart for giving her a chance to find us. We rescued each other.

We went to the event in Santa Fe, NM and came home with a beautiful 10 mo. old black Lab. He is quite mellow and very smart and responsive. What a great find!

concerned for people

Right now I know of a family who's home was bought by a new owner and they didn't want to keep anyone in any of the homes who had owner carried contracts to buy so they literally through shady moves caused 7 families to be out at a moment's notice. One of the families is a personal friend and they did not have any money to move and now with there three kids have no home. My friend I just found out had nit even eaten in three days just so her kids could. Her husband works part time as he has to also take care of my friend who was injured and due to bad insurance and drs she has not been able to walk for over two years. I can't have kids so I have three dogs my husband and I even rescued one but I am sickened that putting animals again of people is a priority to you all. 1 in ever 5 kids in America only eat the food they get at school and they r cutting free lunches for Obama care so now those kids won't eat how about u collect that money to help good families and im not talking about th crack heads who pop out kids just to get welfare im talking about real hard working people who just got a bad hand why don't u help them. Oh that's right let the kids die of starvation but make sure the cat is fed u people r sick
