Video: Inside Look at Kentucky Puppy Mill Rescue

Puppy mill dog in dirty cage

As many of you know, earlier this week, the ASPCA joined local authorities to remove more than 40 dogs, including Chihuahuas and blood hounds, from a large, substandard breeding facility—also referred to as a puppy mill—in Nancy, Kentucky. Many of the dogs have untreated medical conditions, and are being cared for by a team of veterinarians and responders at a temporary facility, set up by the ASPCA and the Kentucky Humane Society, in Louisville.

The dogs are safe now. With temperatures dropping rapidly across the country, it was just in time. These dogs will never again suffer in extreme cold without access to food or shelter. They’ll never be stacked in tiny cages. And they’ll never be forced to breed.

Right now, the ASPCA is providing shelter, veterinary care, healthy food and much-needed attention and affection to the rescued dogs. Our work is far from over.

Please take a moment to watch and share our video.  You’ll see some of the dogs we rescued, as well as the conditions these dogs were forced to endure.

Stay tuned to aspca.org/blog for more news to come. Follow the conversation on Twitter using hashtag #MillsBreedMisery. If now is a good time for you to give, please consider making a gift to the ASPCA.

Did anyone mention that all of the dogs did not have their preventive shots and probably did not have any kind of Heart Worm Treatment. This is a case of abuse and they certainly deserved more that 6 months probation and a slap on the wrist. I really hope that all will send the ASPCA a gift or monthly donation. I have two dogs of my own and I am a senior. I send a gift each month. Jennifer and Laurie both should be ashamed of themselves for thinking that that puppy mill was ok.

I agree with MUCH STRONGER laws against these offenders. Jail time, higher fines that go along with jail. If I were involved with the aspca I would prosecute these people to the maximum. We are these animals voice, & let our voice be heard.

Bottom line is dogs crave human companionship and all these dogs were getting none. A life as a mill dog is very lonely and stressful...These dogs do not get proper care and never get to run around a be a dog. I think all puppy mills need shut down....

The people that do these atrocities to these loving animals definitely do NEED to be prosecuted. Perhaps if they were given the same treatment as they inflict on these animals that are GOD given gifts to us and only want to give and receive love, they would never do it again. God bless all that you do.

I cringe when I see things like this done to these poor, helpless animals. God bless ASPCA & the local authories in Kentucky who removed the dogs and the vets & techs who are now caring for them and showing them not all humans are bad! It's so sad that we have sweet adoptable animals in shelters all across the US that are euthanized. As long as consumers keep buying puppies from petshops and "online breeders" this will continue to happen and that is SAD!!

I am license by my city and is inspect every single year. What is wrong . We need laws that will protect these baby's and let them spend time behind bars where they belong. thank you ASAP for your kinds to these baby's . Prosecute . for get the probation shame on the courts

I agree !!!! THESE PEOPLE NEED MUST STRICTER PENALTIES, MUCH HIGHER AND STRICTER FINES AND JAIL TIME !!!!! IF THAT WERE THE CASE, PEOPLE LIKE THESE WOULD NOT BE AS ANXIOUS TO MAKE MONEY AT THE EXPENSE OF ANIMALS AND WOULD THINK TWICE BEFORE NEGLECTING OR ABUSING ANY ANIMAL !!!!!

Thank you all for what you do day in and day out! I know that our consistent efforts on everyones part WILL make a difference. The way you are helping God's animals is the way that God will always help you.

I try and donate as much as possible but we DO NEED very strict and tough laws to keep these poor excuses for human beings to be placed in jail or better yet tie them on the outside and let them get a taste of what it is like to be treated so inhumanely.

God help us all. What is our world coming to?
