Urgent: Save America’s Wild Horses!

Red horse looking straight ahead

In 1971, Congress declared our wild horses and burros an integral part of our public rangelands and ordered the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to care for them as cultural icons. Over the years, the BLM has rounded up tens of thousands of our wild equines, often with cruel methods, and shipped them to tax-funded holding facilities where they are confined for the rest of their lives.

The BLM is again looking to apply the same failed model of round-ups and removals in revised management plans for wild horses out West. These plans must be altered.

If adopted, these management plans would decimate the wild horse population in the Wyoming Checkerboard, a two-million-acre mix of public and private land where nearly half of Wyoming’s wild horses live. This is certainly not the free-roaming vision Congress set out for these majestic animals.

The good news is that you can help! The BLM is accepting public comments through Friday, September 27, on the potentially devastating revisions to Resource Management Plans that will cull wild horses in Wyoming.

Please be a voice for our wild horses before their time runs out. Visit the ASPCA Advocacy Center right now to quickly contact the BLM. Urge the agency to adopt policies that give horses their fair share of habitat and keep them on the range where they belong.

On behalf of the horses, we thank you!

The government and its employees are funded by US, WE THE PEOPLE , THE TAXPAYERS, VOTERS, CITIZENS. They are not upholding their responsibilities w/honor, integrity. To hear their cries of fear, confusion, grief when one dies yet defenseless, helpless against man. This is sadism, cruelty, greed and blood lust not to mention cowardice run amok. We need to protest, call our reps, boycott states oin commerce, tourism that allow this and the brutal murder of wolves. Our money allows them to function! This is so wrong, immoral. What's happening to us as a country and people

Let the horses be in their natural habitat.

The cruel and terribly frightening and stressful way these beautiful horses or dealt with in these roundups, often using helicopters to herd them, is disgraceful. Why are these animals who can be helpful on working ranches and farms or just a companion to spend a good day with, etc., being taken away for nothing except perhaps butchering? We need to stand up for these animals who are usually grateful for a chance to be with humans and have a purpose. Enough is enough. Seems nothing can be sacred anymore in our country. It is shameful!

Leave them alone. Nature has a way of balancing it's self. Do not disrupt the process.

Wild horses are part of our earliest heritage. They are beautiful and highly intelligent animals. Please do not endanger these horses, and do not confine them. A better plan can be found. Consult with the Humane Society and the ASPCA, as well as PETA. Ask the American people for help with a plan. The BLM plan for these animals are inhumane and should be illegal, they are definitely wrong.

Please don't kill the horses, they have every right to be here !!!

This is appalling. I cannot believe this is happening in a "civilized" nation. If it were a question of them starving (which it isn't) then there are humane methods of birth control. The fact that the BLM has even CONSIDERED the barbaric alternative of mass slaughter makes one wonder how educated these "experts" actually are in the balance of ecosystems. These horses are meant to be free.

The BLM should not be able to do this! Instead of putting all their time into rounding them up, spend the time helping them!!
