Have you ever considered adopting a kitten? Summer is a great time to do so! During feline breeding season, commonly known as kitten season, animal shelters experience an influx of cats and kittens in need of loving homes. The ASPCA Adoption Center in New York City currently has dozens of kittens available for adoption. To help match these adorable felines with loving adopters, the Adoption Center is holding a Summer Adoption Purr-motion from Friday, July 24 to Monday, September 7. Read all of the exciting details below:
Weekdays: $50 adoption fee for kittens under five months, $35 adoption fee for kittens five months to one year; cats over one year are free.
Weekends: $75 for kittens under five months, $50 for kittens five months to 3-year-old cats.
We will continue our BOGO (or, adopt a kitten, take home a second kitten with no adoption fee) promotion during this time.
We hope you’ll consider adopting a kitten (or two) of your own this summer! If you are not in New York City, please use our shelter finder to find adoptable pets in your area.
Please note: while we have many kittens waiting to find loving homes, the individual kittens pictured here are not necessarily available for adoption.
Bear is a two-year-old Akita/Shepherd mix who is ready for a new home. This tender-hearted pup has a soft spot for his friends and loves to cuddle up in the laps of people he knows. It can sometimes take Bear a little while to warm up to new people (particularly men) but he is quick to make a new buddy after a proper introduction.
In 2012, Bear was involved in a car accident that left him with a serious leg injury. Although the leg was amputated, Bear’s three strong stems are quick to take this curious little adventurer anywhere his heart desires. Since he’s always excited to discover new things, Bear would do best with an adopter who can handle some light pulling during a walk. Like most of us, Bear can get uncomfortable when he’s interrupted during a meal or chewing on a toy, but our trainers have some special tips on how you can encourage him to share. Adopt Bear today!
Bear is available for adoption at the ASPCA Adoption Center. If you are interested in adopting Bear, please call our Adoptions Department in New York City at (212) 876-7700 ext. 4120.
Meet Junior: This bright-eyed goofball is ready to bring lots of fun and energy to his new home! Junior is a very playful cat, and would be happiest in a home with an adopter that won’t mind giving him a little bit of extra one-on-one playtime every day. This affectionate little guy loves to be pet, and although he occasionally expresses his excitement with gentle nips, he will stop if ignored for a few minutes.
Junior would do best in a home with kids 12 or older, and would love to have pet siblings who are as energetic as he is! Adopt Junior today!
Meet Wonder! This pretty pup has lots of energy to spare. She would be thrilled to go home with a new best friend who will spend lots of time running around with her to keep her busy, happy and healthy. This smart girl already knows how to “sit” and could learn a few more tricks, too—especially if her favorite treats are involved!
Wonder is friendly and affectionate with her favorite people, but she may need some time to warm up to strangers. This sweet girl is also interested in playing with other dogs. Given time to learn how to play politely, we think she could make some canine friends. Wonder would do best with an experienced adopter. Adopt Wonder today!
Wonder is available for adoption at the ASPCA Adoption Center. If you are interested in adopting Wonder, please call our Adoptions Department in New York City at (212) 876-7700 ext. 4120. To learn more about Wonder, please visit her profile page.

Matthew is a big, playful guy who isn’t your typical cat. This funny feline will keep you laughing with canine-like antics, like greeting you at the door and standing on his hind legs. In fact, his foster dad says he even loves going on afternoon strolls! Matthew’s not shy about letting you know what he wants. If he’s hungry for a favorite treat, he’ll guide you over to his food bowl with some gentle meows. Oh, and keep the plush and wand toys handy—Matthew loves to play, especially with toys he can chase and pounce on.
