In honor of the cutest holiday around, we’re joining forces for the second year running with car service Uber and humor site I Can Has Cheezburger for UberKITTENS, a very special seven city kitten event.
Uber drivers will be hitting the road today with car loads of adoptable kittens to deliver some exclusive kitty playtime to offices across the country. Cat lovers can download the Uber app to their smart phones to request a special kitten car between 12pm and 4pm today, and Uber will transport the furry felines to you, accompanied by a shelter representative, for 15 minutes of on-demand kitten cuddles.
This year’s participating cities include New York, Austin, Phoenix, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. Each delivery will cost $30 dollars with all proceeds benefiting each city’s local shelter. We anticipate kitten demand will be high, so please order quickly!
Each kitty from today’s event will be available for adoption, but there are millions of other kittens and cats in shelters across the country who may not be part of the Uber kitten car but are still awaiting loving, forever homes! We hope this fun event will raise the importance of making cat and pet adoption your first choice.
Don’t live in a participating city? Don’t worry, you can still join in on the fun! Enter our contest to win an ASPCA cat lover’s prize pack by telling us why rescue cats are the best cats. For a chance to win, click here.
We’re so impressed by the adoptions successes in all 33 communities, and we’re thrilled that so many animals found forever homes in just one weekend! Congratulations to all of our 2014 Mega Match-a-thon participants for a job well done.
Television actress Sarah Hyland visited New York City this week to kick off Swiffer’s year-long campaign to help the ASPCA find homes for animals in need. On Monday, Hyland had the opportunity to interact with multiple adoptable dogs and tour the ASPCA Adoption Center.
Hyland also helped to host a pet appreciation party, which featured adoptable pets, in Manhattan on Tuesday with Swiffer and the ASPCA. There she shared her about her personal experiences with her dog Barkley Bixby by her side.
The event was a celebratory culmination of the ASPCA’s Mega Match-a-thon adoption weekend that took place from October 17-19 at shelters nationwide, and resulted in 4,865 cats and dogs finding new homes. During Mega Match-a-thon, Swiffer gifted each adopter with a new Swiffer Sweeper, and participating shelters received one of the brand’s Big Green Boxes full of its cleaning tools.
Hannah is sure to make you smile with her funny antics. This sweet girl is full of energy and loves playtime with her favorite people—she’d make a great companion for your morning run or favorite fall activity! Hannah would be thrilled to go home with an active adopter who will give her plenty of exercise to keep her busy, happy and healthy.
This social butterfly loves her people friends, but feels uncomfortable around other dogs and could benefit from training to learn how to play politely with her human companions. Our Behavioral team is available to give you tips to help Hannah play with manners. Hannah would do best with an experienced adopter in a household with kids 10-and-up, but we think she could make friends with younger children, too if they are introducted prior to adoption. Adopt Hannah today!
Hannahis available for adoption at the ASPCA Adoption Center. If you are interested in adopting, please call our Adoptions department in New York City at (212) 876-7700 ext. 4120. To learn more about Hannah, please visit her profile page.
October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and it could not have come at a more crucial time. According to the latest statistics, nearly 4 million dogs in the United States enter animal shelters annually—and up to 40% never find a home. It’s a staggering number, and it is a sobering reminder that our nation’s pet homelessness problem is very real and very tragic.
The ASPCA is determined to change that, and you can help. Here are three things you can do to celebrate Adopt a Shelter Dog Month:
1. Adopt: There are so many adorable dogs at the ASPCA Adoption Center just waiting to find a home. And—as if their cute faces aren’t incentive enough—we’re also offering reduced adoption fees all month long: $40 for dogs who weigh more than 40 pounds! If you’re not in the New York City area, use our nationwide database tool to find dogs in need of home near you.
2. Share Your Story: Have you rescued a dog? We want to hear about it! Your stories are a great way to spread the word about the joys of dog adoption, and to inspire others to bring home a furry friend of their own. Plus, you’ll be entered for the chance to win an ASPCA prize pack and have your story featured on ASPCA Parents!
3. Donate: We understand that not everyone can bring home a dog of their own. But just because you can’t adopt, doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate Adopt a Shelter Dog Month! So far this month, over 250 animal lovers have stepped up and donated to support homeless pets. We are just 147 donors shy of our goal, and we hope that you can help.
This October, we want to save more lives than ever before. If you can’t adopt, do the next best thing: Make a gift today.
