Slideshow: Dogs Rescued from Fighting Ring

Earlier this year, the ASPCA assisted in a three-state dog fighting bust alongside the FBI, Missouri Highway Patrol and several other agencies.

When we found these dogs, many were doomed to live their whole lives tethered by heavy chains—and on the day of the raid, many were left outside to suffer through a blizzard.

Today, after months under the care of our behaviorists, veterinarians and tireless responders, dogs rescued from this raid are thriving. In fact, some have already headed to rescue for adoption! Still others remain in our care.

We wanted to show you some of these dogs’ happy faces and thank you for helping us make their rescue possible. We couldn’t have taken on this massive operation without your help!

SPCA is not a no kill

Lucy's Mom

ASPCA is not no kill, which is defined I think as a shelter with 90% adoption. There are times when it is cruel to keep an animal alive -- an animals physical suffering may be so great that it is better to humanely euthanize him. Sometimes the mental suffering of an animal kept for long periods in a shelter would cause him to be euthanized. In these cases I believe that an animal who is humanely euthanized is better off. But there are some areas of the country where BSL causes euthanization of specific breeds and mixed breeds-- these are the saddest cases to me.

Don't believe most of what you read or see on FB. It is sad that people will spread damaging rumors like this when people are working so hard to help animals out. The ASPCA will not put down animals unless they are very ill, suffering and have no hope of recovering.

I agree with your oppinion

Um, really, Carol? ASPCA was one of the first no-kill orgs in the country. They don't even have a gas chamber, so if under extreme medical duress they have to put down a dog, it is done humanely and with dignity. Did you also sign up for $25,000 from Bill Gates for "liking" his page?

That's PETA. It was in the news a lot. ASPCA is a wonderful organization. They rescue, rehab and find homes.

I saw this dog fighting news on twitter. Infact I wish dog must be there in the upcoming movie of the wolverine.

Don't believe all you read on F/B. Be careful what you say as people could stop donating to this wonderful organisation. Make sure your facts are right before you post anything.

I am an ASPCA guardian and have been for years - I just recently uped my monthly gift to them that I send every month. In my belief they do the most good out there to help our 4 legged friends, and if you want to make the comments you make you should check out the facts first and not make stupid remarks.

Some valid information here, this may have been what the person was referring to. Though this was only the NYC pound at the time, ASPCA does not run all county shelters today.
