Shame on Aflac for Letting Duck Loose in NYC Subway

We loathe giving Aflac any more media attention than they have already received, but we can’t keep our mouths shut about the recent PR stunt they pulled. If you haven’t yet heard, Aflac recently let a duck loose into a busy New York City subway station and began tweeting about it, ruffling our feathers in the process! The duck, representing their famed mascot, drew quite a bit of attention—but at what cost?

NYC subway stations are noisy, crowded, and let’s face it, pretty dirty places. The hazards that could have harmed our small feathered friend are too numerous to count. We’re appalled that Aflac would pull such a stunt.

Do you think this PR stunt went too far? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Amazing that in a company that big not one person realized how stupid this was and put a stop to it.

Is the duck okay? Has Aflac at least made a statement apologizing? They should - this was awful!

is there proof? just cuz they started tweeting about it doesnt mean they did it. i see no news story on any "credible" news site about this..

How many photos of this do you need to see? And I don't know where you have been looking but it's all over the news.

You really are an idiot.

This is way up there on my list of horrible, STUPID things people do!!!! THINK about what you are doing to the animals BEFORE you pull some God Awful, stupid stunt like this!!!!!! This Infuriates me to the ends of the Earth!!!!!

I think it was a really bad idea and much more cruel. I can imagine the poor duck walking around such a noisy and crowded place. Shame on you Aflac !!

can't they be fined for this as animal abuse?? ASPCA, please file a complaint if you can.

That was the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Subways are noisy, crowded and someone could have stepped on him. He could have freaked out amongst all those people. People are always in such a hurry I doubt they even knew what was going on. Animal abusers should get done to them what they do to innocent animals. Children and animals are helpless against abusers because they can't defend themselves. I am proud to be a long time ASPCA Guardian.

I know an insurance company I won't be doing business with any time soon.
