The U.S. Senate has just passed the Farm Bill, a huge piece of federal legislation that is renewed every five years. While many parts of the Farm Bill time out after five years, other included provisions are enrolled into U.S. law permanently—and this year, that includes a new measure that is going to be a game-changer in our efforts to end animal fighting.

Congress added crucial elements of the Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act into the Farm Bill, making it a federal offense to knowingly attend an organized animal fight and imposing additional penalties for bringing a child to animal fights. Violators face up to one year in prison for attending a fight and up to three years in prison for bringing a child to a fight.

The House- and Senate-passed Farm Bill excludes the dangerous King Amendment.

The Farm Bill will now be transmitted to President Obama, who has indicated that he will sign it quickly.

Anyone know when this will go into effect?

Cassandra Chestnut

I agree!

GOOD!!!!!!! It's a step in the right direction for sure however I believe the punishment should be a lot more harsh. As a matter of fact, I think both spectators and participants should be thrown in a make shift ring against their will with lions and tigers, with no way out and fight for their lives. Anyone who supports this type of cruelty in any way should burn in hell.

Mindy

I think that we should make it mandatory that we torture anyone who abuses any animals in any way!Fines, and jail time does not stop the animal abuse. Tie them to a tree and beat the hell out of them until they cannot take the pain! Let them suffer and if they... "Oh well". Help stop animal abuse! Make and Enforce stricter laws to punish animal abusers." Torture" instead of jail time.

Marcia

In addition to these great ideas,,,how about tattoo of animal abuser on their foreheads and a map of where they live (like the sex offender registry) so neighbors can be aware.

Barb

Animals are innocent and don`t have a choice. People can go out and beat each other up if they want but don`t put Animals in that terrible situation. These people are monsters. Where is the humanity.

So many great ideas, but would especially like to thank:

I'd like to share a poem I wrote many many years ago:

I love animals
And they love me...
Hurt one asshole and you will see
Why those animals all love me

Leslie

It's about time!

Maybe the senate should pass a bill that stops gassing shelter animals as they are prone to fight when placed in such horrific conditions to die in.
