Reward Offered in Horrific Killing of 25 Cats in Yonkers

The ASPCA is contributing $5,000 toward a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in a gruesome cat killing case that stunned New York’s Westchester County last week. On April 24, dozens of deceased cats in various states of decomposition were discovered in black plastic bags hanging from a tree in the community of Yonkers.

The ASPCA’s reward is in addition to $13,250 being offered by the SPCA of Westchester, the lead agency on the case. Shannon Laukhuf, executive director of the SPCA of Westchester, announced the reward on Tuesday. Other organizations contributing to the reward include the Humane Society of the United States, the Animal Legal Defense Fund, the Defense of Animals Fund, and Alley Cat Allies.

“This is a truly disturbing case of animal cruelty,” says Stacy Wolf, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated in our society. We thank the SPCA of Westchester for its commitment to finding justice for these innocent cats.”

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the SPCA of Westchester’s confidential hotline at (914) 941-7797.

Please be vigilant in your community and report suspected animal abuse. Visit our Fight Cruelty section to learn which agencies are responsible for investigating and enforcing anti-cruelty laws in your area.

To all of you who do not understand the consequences of animal abuse: People that abuse animals sooner of later will try to obtain the same satisfaction with humans (does Jeffrey Dhammer rings a bell?). A child who is taught to love and respect animals, will most likely be a compassionate individual, not only to animals, but to other humans. We as homo sapiens have the obligation to protect those creatures under our wings (and all animals are), to you who claims that babies are thrown in a plastic bag, read what I wrote above and you will see what I mean. Besides, every human has a cause, and those at the ASPCA have a mission to protect animals, others have different missions so do not criticize us for having one. If you are not going to be part of the solution, please, please do not be part of the problem by targeting the ASPCA.

WAY TO GO LISA, LET MIKE HANG FROM A TREE BY YOU KNOW WHAT.

cherie

really now.......is that reaction warranted??? hang the good man because he cares about human beings as well as animals????? he is a good friend to the ASPCA!!!!!

KAR

thank you Cherie, just because he cares about people does not mean he doesn't care about animals. People often react to animal killings this way. It is all wrong to kill any living being, (except mosquitos) and just because someone says this about unborn children does not mean they are insensitive to animals but they should save that for a sit e where someone may be speaking of killing unborn children which is horrific and murder.

What we all should remember is that cruelty to animals is a warning sign that the cruelty may very well escalute to children/humans. So we need to STOP cruelty whereever it rears it ugly head. Please GOD find the person/people who did
this insane act before it happens again.

Let's go back to what Trish says. From a former law enforcement officer of 30 years, those that harm animals in such a cruel manner usually hurt humans too. One leads to the other. It is one of the first signs law enforcement looks for.

They want to hang him because he was stupid the way he said it. Of course it is bad to kill children, or anyone for that matter, but the bottom line Mike is that anyone who kills someone gets caught and goes to jail. For animals the law doesn't do that often enough. Animals are the same as people and the laws should be the same for animals as it is for people. I do believe that anyone who does not like animals does not have a heart. I have a problem with abuse of children, the elderly and animals. Anything that is defenseless and you abuse you should be prosecuted. I do hope they find the person and hang him from the tree.

It's bad to kill children? REally? Last time I checked abortion was legal in the US. However, the torture and killing of animals is not. He tried to deflect this article by showing "false" outrage over this henious act and place blame on those who support legal abortion in this country. Nice try defending the indefensible.
