Nubbins and His Bird Buddy Pose for 2014 Calendar

Green parakeet sits on white cat friend's back

When Nubbins the cat was found, he was emaciated, riddled with birdshot, and had tumors hanging from both of his ears. But the minute he was removed from his carrier by his rescuers, he started purring. He knew he was finally safe; relief was here at last.

Dr. Patricia Wagner, a veterinarian at the ASPCA Animal Hospital, performed surgery on the sweet feline and fell in love with his kind demeanor. Soon after, Nubbins joined Dr. Wagner’s household. He is incredibly grateful for his second chance and gets along swimmingly with the family’s resident parakeet.

In fact, kitty and bird are stars of the 2014 ASPCA calendar. Check out this adorable behind-the-scenes video of Nubbins sitting for his photo shoot.

Have you received your 2014 calendar? Want another one for friends or family? (They make great gifts!) Make a small donation to the ASPCA, and we’ll send you our 2014 calendar today. Thank you, as always, for your support. It makes stories like Nubbins’ possible.

I became a member just a month or so ago, been wanting to for a long time. I'm on a fixed income, otherwise you'd get more$$ from me. I LOVE what you stand for and all that you do for all of those who can't speak up for themselves...You have all my support and may God bless the ASPCA. I only wish that I could do more.Thank you for making a difference<3

I want to cry. You can just hear his thank you.

Thank you for sharing a beautiful story & for giving Nubbins a wonderful life.

I cannot hold back the tears watching this video. I am happy for this amazing family and their nubs, but makes me wonder of all suffering "out there".

Thanks for helping Nubbin,

It sickens me always to hear of how a defenseless animal was treated so cruelly. I am relieved to learn this beautiful cat will have a chance at being treated right and have a good life with Dr Wagner

I once had long hair white cat and a green parakeet. Can't even remember the cats name (some 60 years ago) but while he was sleeping, Chippy would fly down and walk on him. Then he would pull on the hair in the ears with only ear twitching. After that, he pulled the whiskers with no real response..Next he would mess with the toenails which would wake the cat. He would lay and watch Chippy for a while then reach out and trap him under his paw and would lay there listening to Chippy squaking until he lifted his paw and Chippy would fly to his cage.

What a sweet little soul!
