Nubbins and His Bird Buddy Pose for 2014 Calendar

Green parakeet sits on white cat friend's back

When Nubbins the cat was found, he was emaciated, riddled with birdshot, and had tumors hanging from both of his ears. But the minute he was removed from his carrier by his rescuers, he started purring. He knew he was finally safe; relief was here at last.

Dr. Patricia Wagner, a veterinarian at the ASPCA Animal Hospital, performed surgery on the sweet feline and fell in love with his kind demeanor. Soon after, Nubbins joined Dr. Wagner’s household. He is incredibly grateful for his second chance and gets along swimmingly with the family’s resident parakeet.

In fact, kitty and bird are stars of the 2014 ASPCA calendar. Check out this adorable behind-the-scenes video of Nubbins sitting for his photo shoot.

Have you received your 2014 calendar? Want another one for friends or family? (They make great gifts!) Make a small donation to the ASPCA, and we’ll send you our 2014 calendar today. Thank you, as always, for your support. It makes stories like Nubbins’ possible.

What a precious cat. So glad he was rescued and knows what it's like to be loved. They definitely are grateful that they've been rescued.

Very touching video. Thank you so much Doctor for caring for this special baby and bringing Nubbins into your heart and family...YOU are a very special person and your kitty is very special!

Diana

Was it a guardian angel who directed Nubbins to this caring vet or one who directed the Dr. to Nubbins? I believe both! Beautiful Nubbins you are so deserving of the love you receive and Dr. Wagner so are you. Thanks so much for sharing this touching wonderful story.

Not unusual at all. I had a cat that was best friends with our parrot and a cat that helped me raise a squirrel.

I loveeeee this video. All but one animal that I have (horses, dogs, cats) are rescues.... How I love this video! But, I love that you recognized something in him.. that he was more than what you intellectually knew.... that you cared enough to save his life. Yes ... he's appreciative, but it's deeper than that! Thank you! and thank you for my calendar! Karin Janin

Nubbins is SO Adorable and SO Blessed to be where he is now . SO happy fur him :)

Not funny and not cute. The cat can kill the budgie in five seconds flat. And don't tell me that this cat is "different." They are all predators and when provoked won't hesitate to strike. Shame on you ASPCA.

Cheryl

Obviously you have never seen the videos regarding "Strange friends" Where a lion who really is a wild preditor has a fawn as a best friend. Animals do not kill to kill only to eat. I don't think Nubbins is hungry. Some animals are different so don't jump to conclusions.

Ellen

I've seen lots of "strange" friends pictures and videos and I've seen lots of pictures and videos of dead and mutilated birds because of cats and/or dogs. I'll be happy to share them with you. Cats do not only kill because they're hungry. They kill just for the heck of it. I've run after well-fed cats who had caught birds.
The research is out there. And in the United States, millions of songbirds are killed every year by well-fed cats. The only thing that tops cats as bird killers are windows.
