Nubbins and His Bird Buddy Pose for 2014 Calendar

Green parakeet sits on white cat friend's back

When Nubbins the cat was found, he was emaciated, riddled with birdshot, and had tumors hanging from both of his ears. But the minute he was removed from his carrier by his rescuers, he started purring. He knew he was finally safe; relief was here at last.

Dr. Patricia Wagner, a veterinarian at the ASPCA Animal Hospital, performed surgery on the sweet feline and fell in love with his kind demeanor. Soon after, Nubbins joined Dr. Wagner’s household. He is incredibly grateful for his second chance and gets along swimmingly with the family’s resident parakeet.

In fact, kitty and bird are stars of the 2014 ASPCA calendar. Check out this adorable behind-the-scenes video of Nubbins sitting for his photo shoot.

What an awesome story! Kudos to Dr. Wagner, not only for what she does every day, but also for the second chance she gave this wonderful creature. The world needs more Dr. Wagners! : ) To all of you animal lovers out there...keep up the good work! It matters!

Thai is so very heart warming and endearing. Nubbins is very very special and the perfect example of even after going thru bad times and treatment, he just wanted to love and be loved! This is why all animals deserve a chance to live happy love filled lives. :)

The woman (not the bird) is my sister. She feels that it's her life's calling to help animals (though cats are easier to keep on her busy schedule.) Her house is full of similar cats and foster kittens- luckily her husband is also a cat nut!

She spent a tremendous amount of time, effort and $$$$ to become a vet, left school with a six-figure debt, and has no children, but feels this is her life's calling. At work, she's so busy, she doesn't even have time to microwave her food and often eats it frozen!! I have seen her in action and can see why.

Anyway, thought I'd give her a shout-out. Thanks for checking out the ASPCA link and Happy 2014!!!
