New York City Dog Rescued from Cruelty, Now Thriving With Loving Family

In October 2013, NYPD officers responded to multiple calls reporting a case of animal cruelty in the Bronx. Their investigation revealed that a dog named Red was indeed a victim of cruelty. His owner was subsequently arrested and charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty.

Luckily, this was just the beginning of a transformation for Red. When he arrived at the ASPCA Animal Hospital, he was thin and had multiple wounds on his head and leg. Red received treatment including IV fluids, pain medication and antibiotics. After six weeks of care and recovery, Red was ready to find a new forever home.

Just before Christmas, Red went home with adopter Zach C. to begin his new life as a beloved pet. Red, now known as Hank, is thriving with Zach and his cat, Frank.

"ASPCA volunteers stayed late so that I could bring Hank home before the Adoption Center closed for the holidays,” Zach says. “Hank is now part of the family and adds his own personality to an already happy home. There's nothing like waking up with a dog who is excited to play and hang out with me all day.”

Zach reports that while he was initially nervous about Hank and Frank getting along, the two are very curious about each other and love to compete for the attention of Zach and his girlfriend.

We’re thrilled that Hank is so happy and healthy in his new home. Unfortunately, thousands of animals are victims of cruelty nationwide. If you live in New York City and witness animal cruelty, please call 311 (or 911 for crimes in progress) to notify the NYPD. I'm so happy that Hank was able to have his Holiday in a new home filled with love. I'm sure he and Frank will be great friends in no time! A great ending to a very tragic story.

A big thank you to the ASPCA and to Frank for giving Red a second chance!

Can someone PLEASE explain to me, WHY the scum that do these things are charged with misdemeanors? I will NEVER understand this!

I'm so happy for this amazing beautiful Angel...he deserves the very best...what a precious love bug...look at this adoring face...pretty eyes...how could anyone hurt this Angel? Our laws here in the US need to get stiffer for these creeps, their cowards who have no respect for life..if they can neglect, abuse, hurt animals their capable of anything..they obviously are very unstable.i would want them to pass a law to register this pos on a register as a animal abuser...so people know who's moving in their neighborhood and these cowards aren't allowed to adopt,Foster or be near any animal and if they are they need to be jailed...this is pretty light considering what they have done to these innocent, helpless animals...God bless you Hank and your family..may you always have security,love,happiness,family,home...xxxooooossss your way precious Hank!!!!

Hope the best for Hank and the worst for his former owner....

I am always relieved when I read stories with happy forever endings. Now that Hank is settled in his new life of love and security I would like to know what kind of sentence has his abuser received. I would like to see the courts get tougher on these morons. It is time for the people of this country to take a stand with regards
to the jailtime for abusers. No more hand-slapping and sending them on their merry way to the next victim. Lock them up and throw away the key. This will probably save some poor animal or evern worse a child from these sick individuals. Never understood what terrible atrocity any animal could commit to warrant the terrible abuse, neglect and horrific treatment they get. I do not think it would bother me to be the one to treat the abusers the way they have treated those who cannot defend themselves. PEOPLE!!!..we need to be the voice for those who have none.
Thanks for letting me blow off steam from these stories, I feel better. Big woofs and sloppy kisses to Hank and his new family. God Bless.

Sweet Baby...praying for the animal offender list to go through so those not fit to be pet owners cannot adopt or purchase an animal!!

Look at that face (the bottom pic). Even after all the abuse he suffered Red/Hank still has such a kind face.
