National Chicken Month Takeover!

National Chicken Month Takeover!

We have a soft spot for chickens: they’re feathery and friendly, curious and even cuddly. And did you know they experience REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, associated with dreaming? But nearly 9 billion birds in this country are not living a dream. They’re suffering on overcrowded, unsanitary factory farms, bred to grow in such rapid, unnatural ways that they often collapse and spend much of their lives lying in their own waste.

At the ASPCA, we’re fighting to change this—but we need your help.

The chicken-meat industry calls September National Chicken Month, so it’s the perfect time to use your voice and take a stand for more humanely raised, healthier chickens:

1.      Check out our new video, “The Professor,” to learn what’s gone wrong in chicken farming and what can be done about it:

2.      Demand more humanely raised chicken right where you shop…without even leaving home! Fill out our online grocery store request letter, and we’ll make sure your supermarket gets the message.

3.      Spread the word. Let your friends and family know that September is National Chicken Month and there’s a lot they can do to help! Join us on Friday, September 12 at 3:00 P.M. (Eastern time) for a special Twitter chat using the hashtag #ChickenMonth. And be sure to spread the word on your social channels using the sample post below!

Chickens suffer on factory farms and they deserve better! Join @ASPCA and take action: truthaboutchicken.org #ChickenMonth

Thirty days and three powerful ways to help billions of animals. Cluck yeah!

Except for the part where the ASPCA is advocating, not for veganism, but for more humanely raised chickens, which means a healthier chicken, and by extension, healthier food for people.

Got a problem with that?

Cute cartoon. Too bad it doesn't represent actual chicken farms. All of the farmers I've met care about their animals and want to keep them in the best condition possible. If fact, if their birds aren't well cared for they might die and you can't sell a diseased or dead bird. Farmers consult with veterinarians on a regular basis to ensure the health of the flock.
Yes, farmers are trying to maximize efficiency, but that is because the American consumer demands more and more chicken. This isn't a bad thing. But, it is a reality.
Unsanitary conditions are not allowed either. Chickens produce waste, but until they are potty trained farmers work hard to clean up the waste on a regular basis and properly dispose of the waste.
It is true that chickens grow faster today than they did 50 years ago. But, that is a good thing! Advances in technology and genetics have allowed farmers to raise more chickens each year and again meet the growing demand.
I'm going to celebrate National Chicken Month with a nice roast chicken dinner. Or maybe some chicken kebabs with mushrooms and green peppers. Or maybe a chicken salad sandwich. Or some pulled chicken BBQ. Yum!

Seriously?! You believe that farmers actually "care" about the chickens ... or whatever animal they are raising for profit?

Wake up to reality.

Try and go visit a "real" money making chicken farm. I guarantee you that you will not even be allowed on their property unless you are applying for a job or a peace officer with a search warrant.

Now here's something to imagine; what if you were somebody's next meal, locked in a building with no sunlight, pissing and shitting, nothing to do but eat all day until you are at a "prime" weight to be butchered a slow death?!

Not too pleasant a thought is it.

Chicken says: "Mmmm, slow roasted breast and leg of human; my favorite next to BBQ human ribs!!!

Actually, I was a chicken farmer for several years and all my hens had names. I raised them for egg production rather than meat. Trust me, you can't lump us all into one neat ball and say we are all bad and inhumane. It just isn't true.

Too bad you do not know what you are talking about. I can't even explain it to you as you are too stupid! Good luck eating all the hormones antibiotics fed to them. and because they are so stressed, you get to eat that stress which will eventually make you sick.

Barb

There is no such thing as humane meat. It is still murder in my eyes. Go vegan.

Try it, you wOn't regret it!.
