Learn the Truth About Chicken

The ASPCA is excited to announce the launch of a new farm animal campaign focusing on the plight of chickens raised for meat (often called “broiler” chickens). Roughly 8.5 billion chickens are raised in the U.S. annually, most on squalid factory farms where there is no government oversight of their treatment.

The issue is not just the treatment of chickens, though: it’s that modern chickens are selectively bred to grow so large, so fast, that they struggle to simply move or stand.

Today’s chickens are bred to have such massive and disproportionate bodies that they often collapse and spend most of their lives lying helplessly in their own waste. Many have open wounds, which act as gateways to infections that can be passed on to people. Don't be fooled: Most chickens who wind up on American dinner plates bear no resemblance to the healthy-looking, active birds you may have been led to expect.

The ASPCA is calling on the chicken industry to do better—but to make sure they’re paying attention, we need to show them that people like you care about how chickens are raised, too.

Visit TruthAboutChicken.org to learn more, then add your voice to the chorus of concerned Americans asking the chicken industry to change its inhumane practices.

By insisting on slower-growing chickens and better conditions, we can reduce suffering and raise healthier birds who may be less likely to spread dangerous infections like salmonella. But to get the chicken industry to move in the right direction, they need to see that people like you are paying attention—and counting on the industry to do what’s right for chickens and consumers.

We need you on our side: Please tell the chicken industry it’s time for slower-growing chickens raised in safer, more humane conditions. Speak out today by adding your name to our Truth About Chicken petition.

Mr. Meat Eater

So what, do you want to eat?

Disgusting and cruel. Laws need to be tighter and checks done on a regular basis. As for the ignorant who feel fit to post arrogant comments. Look around the food industry its quite an eye opener for the cruelty that goes on behind closed doors.

I do realize Mr. Meat Eater is probably just a troll, but it's shocking how many people truly don't realize just how many high quality non-animal foods are out there. I'm just glad I finally opened my own eyes, and I'm glad some of my friends have followed suit. (I'm also glad I live near a grocery store that provides an increasing number of vegan options - thank you, Wegmans!.) Kudos to those of you who make the effort to reduce animal suffering in this world!

Farmers have voices, but chickens as animals have neither voices nor choices. I make the merciful choice of being their voice: Stop it!

Actually Carol is more "on point" than most of these comments here about meat eating.
As a Christian, I am commanded to be a GOOD steward of what GOD has created. HE loves and cares for ALL HE has created. In the beginning there was NO death, pain or suffering and ALL animals were to be HELP-MATES and COMPANIONS- NOT FOOD! GOD gives us a PLANT-BASED diet too in Genesis 1:29-31.
It is forbidden by GOD to harm any living thing. It goes against HIS divine plan.
Seventh Day Adventists DON'T eat meat, Most of the population in India and many Asian countries don't eat meat and only really began due to being "westernized" by us! Most of these countries do not suffer from obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc. They live longer than us too and as far as consumption, Americans eat 6 times more meat than any other country! Eating meat also contributes to global warming, world hunger and huge amounts of water pollution and land use. We could feed 800 million people with the grains we feed livestock! IF you say you are an environmentalist, Christian, you should NOT be eating meat!!
As far as it being "natural" are digestive systems are too long to truly and completely digest meat, so it rots in your body, so you get colon, stomach and other cancers, etc. Our teeth are NOT like tigers, bears and other predators either!
I would LOVE to see you chase down a deer and bite it in it's neck to kill it and than eat it raw! Disgusting and unnatural, also hypocritical when you make distinctions between dogs & pigs, chickens & parakeets, cows & cats, etc. We are ALL flesh, bone and blood and it really is a SIN to eat flesh, bone & blood!
God has only given us a free will and we have chosen to go against HIS will. Therefore this earth and all that is living in it is suffering and is NOT how GOD intended it to be!!!!
Basing my vegetarianism and veganism on thegrounds of my Christianity is a very strong "base" and IF any one really opens their hearts and minds, they will see that eating other feeling, sentient beings is WRONG and just plain GROSS! Especially the way factory farms treat these animals and the workers!

Where I come from, England, no poultry can be sold as Free Range unless that is exactly how it is raised: able to roam around fenced in fields with a coop for roosting. Poultry raised and kept in large buildings on sawdust, chippings or straw are NOT free range. The term for their situation is "Deep Litter," marginally better than caged birds, but far from ideal. Of course, poultry and other farm animals raised for food raised as humanely and without all of those antibiotics and growth hormones would cost the consumer much more. And so meat-eating should.

I have no doubt about this.
It's been done before and no one seems to take notice.
Turkeys are not naturally white, have no fan tails and can't fly. Wild turkeys are medium breasted, can fly, the toms have large tail fans and are brown, black and tan.

stop eating OTHERS , stop participating in the genocide of the most innocent creatures on the planet

Our greed has lead to this horror for animals and for our health. We need to wise up and just go Vegan. It's proven the healthiest way to eat and live a long life ! I wish more people would do the home work .... and that would STOP this mess we have created for ourselves.

Now days the only way that you can eat and be sure it is safe is to grow your own. Food has not been safe to eat for years and it's not going to get any better. No wonder the world is full of cancer patients. We don't know what is in any food or drink anymore.
