Join Our Fight Against Anti-Whistleblower "Ag-Gag" Laws

You may have heard a lot of talk about Idaho recently, and it’s no small potatoes. Idaho’s governor, C.L. “Butch” Otter, recently signed into law a controversial anti-whistleblower “ag-gag” bill that punishes those who expose abusive conditions on factory farms. Though Governor Otter claims this law will keep agriculture producers “secure in their property,” we, and countless others concerned about the welfare of animals, are extremely concerned about the greater implications of ag-gag.

In passing this bill, Idaho became the seventh state to enact an ag-gag law. By effectively closing out journalists, investigators, and even the general public from animal production facilities, the agribusiness industry can continue to keep consumers in the dark about where their food is coming from.

We have seen countless instances of abuse on industrial farms, including the recent case of a Wisconsin dairy farm that produces cheese for the frozen pizza brand DiGiorno. Undercover footage taken by Mercy For Animals caught workers at this farm viciously kicking, stabbing, beating, and dragging cows, and the footage led to 11 charges of criminal animal cruelty. Without such footage, we may never have known of these horrors, and because of ag-gag laws, we may never learn of countless other, similar instances.

Sadly, these bills are popping up everywhere, and we’re up against a mighty opponent. We, and the animals, need your help to make sure that no more of these bills, or any others that imperil the lives of animals, pass into law.

How in the world are laws such as this passed? Do these laws require a vote of the general public? Anyone who does not protect animals to ensure that they are treated humanely should be ashamed of themselves and certainly not in a position to sign bills. We are going in the wrong direction - backwards. Thank you ASPCA for all of your work and efforts on behalf of the animals.

Condoning animal abuse and protecting abusers is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. We need to protect the animals, they have no voice, so we need to be one for them. The last people we need to protect is the abusers.

John

They should be punished the same as abusing a person there is no difference abuse is abuse!!

Bambi

These people that condone a act like "ABUSE" to animals should be subject to the same, and see how they like it. These are heartless humans. We need to sign a petition for to get this stopped. Disgusted!

Karen

PLEASE get these videos and news stories to the media so the public can be informed.

Heidi

It is disgusting that anyone could condone this despicable behavior, these animals deserve to have a good life they dont deserve to be hurt in any way.

Everyone in Idaho should vote these rotten people out - especially the Senator who said the new law tickles him! Tickles him because now the abusers can do so without anyone knowing it - if you dare to video record their torturing the animals - Idaho can fine you $5,000. Just what are they hiding? They are hiding the way they treat animals on farms, factories, slaughter houses, etc - they know they are wrong and they don't want the people to know it so this rotten senator came up with a bill and passed it to gag the public from exposing these scumbags!

When i read this about Otter the rancher, this will not simply fly with me and I know not with alot of people. This is degusting and apauled. these people should be
sent to prison and serve time just like anything else that is law breaking. the lawe is to protect all children as well as animals, these are the people that has no voice, so we that are here to protect them, we should step up to the plate and protect them all (children and animals). This is a sad day when we allow this kind of abuse tto go without stopping it now. How could one go to sleep at night.

Indiana isn't far behind. Every year they put the same legislation out there for an ag-gag bill. So far they haven't succeeded but they don't give up and neither should we. Indiana also is notorious for allowing "canned hunts".

Yes, and more yes, Otter is sub-humane element. He is so anti-wolf and anti-animal of all kinds. I would not want to live in that state of Idaho ... He is slaughtering all the wolves one by one for his donors/voters most likely -- the hunters and ranchers and etc.... These poor farm animals inside behind these closed doors.. getting this cruel mean savage treatment. It has to stop.. so I say -- Otter and your state of Idaho and others = YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE !! The fight continues !! for farm animals and wildlife and all animals !!!
