Dog Abuser Rejects Plea Deal

Tuesday, April 20, 2010 - 1:00pm

On April 15, after reconfirming her not guilty plea to animal torture charges, Tiara Davis rejected a 60-day jail deal offered by the District Attorney. In a heavily publicized case, Davis was caught on video violently kicking and leash-choking her nine-pound Pomeranian, Sparky. The incident occurred on January 11 in the Grant Houses in Morningside Heights, the same public housing project where surveillance video captured an unrelated dog beating only two weeks prior the incident.

It was approximately 2:00 A.M. on January 11, when the NYPD's in-elevator surveillance system captured Davis beating the four-year-old dog. The 31-year-old apparently lost her temper after Sparky urinated on the elevator floor. The video clearly shows Davis punching, kicking and swinging the small dog by his neck until he blacked out. Sparky suffered multiple bruises, possible liver damage and emaciation. He is currently recuperating at the ASPCA Bergh Memorial Hospital.

"There was no justification for this violent act of cruelty," says Stacy Wolf, Vice President and Chief Legal Counsel for the ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Department "I think the plea deal is generous and should be reconsidered by the defendant, I am not sure a jury would be as lenient."

Davis, who was arrested by ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Agents the same morning the beating occurred, is due back in court on May 12, where the possibility of trial awaits her.

I do feel that this lady could be a potential threat to society, especially the young, weak or aged. I feel a jail sentence should most certianly be adequate punishment and phycological review upon release as well. I believe that this lady should never be allowed to own an animal again and if she has children, I feel it would be best if they were interviewed by childrens services to ensure that they are ok.I feel a registry on people like this could be bennificial as it is not that far of a step from animal abuse to commiting crimes against humanity. I feel that she went to extream lengths to punish her dog andfar surpased the line of punishment to abuse. I understand the anger of many people in the comments, however, many people whom sugest " a bullit to the head" do not nessissarily mean that, they are just really angry that we do not have laws that are adequate enough to punish perpetrators of such violent crimes and where we do, they are often not handed out by authorities. If the sentencing of abusive crimes such as these were stricter and standard, we would have less of this kind of crime happening. I think that is something we can all agree on and all want.

Hey, it's a freaking dog and it belonged to her. You don't hear anywhere near this much hate over the 50 million babies that have been cut to pieces, had their brains sucked out of their heads, etc. over the past 40 years.

Maybe a bullet to trhe big toe and three bites from a pit bull. She probably just had a bad childhood. Whatever she gets, she will always be a piece of dog doo in my mind. It's kinda like a rapist, even though they serve their sentence, they are still dog doo. Once you abuse an animal, thats who you are.

Lillie

She better be glad I am not on the jury, I would give her the maximum allowed sentence. There is no sense anyone treating an animal cruelly. She also should never be allowed to own an animal again.

teddy

it's just a dog.

Connie

Teddy, obviously, by that comment....you're just another Idiot running around taking up air space. As I mentioned before, it's a scientifically proven fact that serial killers START with abusing animals before they move on to humans. Besides that, to abuse something that has no defense against you what so ever shows the utter lack of good character and self control of any NORMAL human being. Again, is she going to abuse her children when they don't make it to the toilet during potty training? Yes, it's a dog, but you are missing the whole point behind the TYPE of person we're talking about. Try to educate yourself a little before making ignorant, dismissive comments like that....it's really annoying. You shouldn't even join the conversation if you don't have anything more intelligent to contribute.

Put a leash on her ass and kick and choke her then shoot her ass.

denise allen

No deals should be offered to pieces of trash who abuse animals.

Nigel Barrett

I'm glad she rejected the deal. Hopefully a trial jury will consist of normal decent human beings who love dogs...........
