Diane R. shared her story with us about a spontaneous trip to the ASPCA Adoption Center that resulted in bringing home a new furry friend named Bubba. Bubba has quite the personality and always keeps Diane on her toes.

I had two cats that I brought with me when I moved to New York City. They both passed away, and I knew that one day I would welcome another furry friend into my life when the time was right.

I heard there was a rescue facility somewhere near me on the Upper East Side. One July afternoon, I decided to get some fresh air and run errands. As I walked down Second Avenue, I saw a poster for the ASPCA on the side of a bus stop. Then, as I was about to check in on Foursquare at a grocery store, the first address that came up was for the ASPCA. I took the hint and headed there.

The entire staff was patient, helpful, kind and professional. In the third room I visited, I met one slightly shy guy, Bubba. He had the sweetest face and as I tried to pet him, he swatted me. I loved that! My previous boy cat had the same feisty swagger.

I met many amazing cats, but on the way out, I had to see Bubba one more time. When we opened the door, Bubba zoomed out as though to say, “Let's go already!" Now I was sure—he was my guy.

I tried to set him up in the bathroom to start, as the Adoptions staff suggested, but Bubba had his own agenda. He wanted to be where I was, so I set up a blanket on my living room floor. During Bubba's first days at home he slept, ate and played a lot! He explored my entire apartment.

Bubba has a vibrant and curious personality and cracks me up on a daily basis. He is so sweet, and welcomes me home with the most perfect tiny meow. I cannot thank the ASPCA enough for the gift of allowing me to adopt Bubba! He has made me smile, laugh out loud, and has filled my heart since I brought him home.

Bubba is a handsome boy! How fortunate and blessed are you that Bubba decided you're his human. : )

Bless you for adopting Bubba. Our 2 rescue cats are our joy.

Kathy

My boy kitty Oliver (may he rest in peace) adopted me right away, too -- and did not hesitate to investigate the entire apartment the minute I let him out of the carrier the first time I brought him home.

Bubba is one very lucky kitty, and you are lucky to have him.

I had a similar experience with my kitty Jax about ten years ago. He was on death row at the Human society. A 2 year old tabby, when I opened the cage he jumped in my arms and would not let go. Funny thing is he is not a lap cat. He does not like to be held. But he is so funny and silly and plays hid and seek. Hangs with my friends and parties. All the best for years to come with Bubba!

How lovely for you and for sweet Bubba that you are in each other's lives. Whether we adopt them or they adopt us -- sometimes it's both! -- our feline (and canine) companions bring such love. So happy for you both.

OH GOD! I ALREADY LOVE BUBBA ! I LOST ONE LIKE HER (STOLEN) ABOUT ONE MONTH AGO...MY HEART IS BREAKING AND I'M STILL CRYING...SHE CAME TO MY HOUSE FROM NOWHERE AND SHE WAS LIKE YOUR BEAUTIFUL CAT! ( I LIVE IN MIAMI), ONE DAY, ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO, SHE KNOCK MY DOOR WITH HER RIGHT PAW ( I HAVE 4 LITTLE DOGS AND THEY STARTED BARKING)...IT WAS "MISSY" AT THE DOOR...SHE WAS THE SWEETEST THING I'VE EVER KNOWN, SHE HAS BEEN THE ONLY CAT THAT WAS NOT AFRAID OF MY DOGS, EVEN SHE LIKED THEM FROM THE VERY BEGINNING AND PLAY WITH THEM, SHE WAS SMART, INTELLIGENT AND SO PRECIOUS!! HER HAIR WAS YELLOW LIKE BUBBA (A LITTLE DARKER IN COLOR, POINTING ORANGE)...I ALWAYS PREFERRED DOGS IN MY LIFE, BUT SINCE I MET "MISSY" I CHANGED MY MIND! I WISH I COULD FIND HER, I'M STILL PRAYING ! ENJOY YOUR PRECIOUS "BUBBA" , SHE IS WONDERFUL, BEAUTIFUL AND ADORABLE !!!!!!

You remind me so much of myself. He would have immediately got my attention when he swatted at me. I like the spunky ones. My Phoebe who came into my rescue & was never adopted, (probably because she has a small physical deformity in her upper lip), Wanted to take the entire household out when she arrived. :). Now the minute I go to bed she comes running and gets in my arms, I wouldn't trade her for the world.:) I loved your story, thanks for sharing it.

I have had many, many cats and those yellow striped ones are some of the nicest, smartest I have ever encountered. I had one yellow tom named Rufus that would lie in your arms and hug you about the neck for hours if you let him. One day I started to ask him to do things, just on a whim, and discovered he understood 'roll over' and many other things he was never actually taught. If you are in doubt, try a yellow furred friend-they are a great choice, as is Bubba.
