Red horse looking straight ahead

Join us in supporting The Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act, introduced in Congress yesterday by Senators Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Representatives Patrick Meehan (R-PA) and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL). This vital legislation will stop the transport of American horses to slaughter in Mexico and Canada, as well as permanently prevent it from occurring here in the United States. Please ask your Members of Congress to cosponsor the bill and help usher it to passage!

We’ve known for years that horse slaughter is an exceptionally cruel practice—whether it happens in the U.S. or elsewhere. Due to their biology and their psychology, horses cannot be slaughtered in a commercial setting without tremendous suffering and fear.

We also know that horse meat is not even safe to eat! Horses are fed de-wormers and other toxic drugs that can cause terrible reactions—including death—in people who eat their tainted meat. Consumers in the E.U. are just discovering the dangers they have unwittingly been exposed to, and the scandal grows daily.

In spite of this mountain of damning evidence, the USDA is currently processing an application for a horse slaughter operation here in the United States. Roswell, New Mexico, may soon become ground zero for horse suffering.

The ASPCA has worked closely with federal legislators and other advocacy groups to develop the SAFE Act. This bill will stop the pain and the suffering of equines caught up in this grisly business. Please visit the ASPCA Advocacy Center to take action now to urge your U.S. senators and representative to cosponsor the SAFE Act.

I can understand why in some countries people eat what is around but, this country is NOT one of them! We cannot allow the murder of innocent, beautiful animals for profit! That's what is about! Companies making more profit!

Patricia Pruitt

It is so sad to me that these beautiful animals who have worked our fields, delivered our mail, help settle our country, herded our cattle, entertained us, fought in our wars, are part of our western heritage, have became our pets, etc, are now being slaughtered. Please, please save our horses - they deserve our protection - they do not deserve to end up in a slaughter house!

Greta

Horses or any other ANIMALS should not be slaughtered for human food!! IT' S TOTALLY WRONG! It' s cruelty!
Unscrupulous and ambitious people created this BUSSINESS long time ago only be rich! Because they don't care and neither respect the Animals. And this action depend from " US" TO STOP IT FOREVER! CHANGE YOUR EATING HABITS, BE VEGAN AND HAVE A BETTER HEALTH!!
When you kill a person you become a MURDER! And it's the same thing, when people kill an animal, It called MURDER TOO!

Rick

It's crazy but we will kill a harmles horse but let a murder live in prison off of taxs of hard working people!!!

Sue

Horse slaughter must be stopped! I support the Safe Act.

There are only two anmals on earth with the right to eat a horse, and they are a Mountain Lion or a Wolf. If people would stop shooting, trapping and poisoning these natural predatots, then overpopulation and overgrazing by wild horses would cease to be a problem. Horses should not be slaughtered to make for hamburger fillers or pet food; that is unnatural, disgusting and cruel.

now that the horses are safe can we begin work on banning the slaughter of Iraqi's, Pakastani's, Syrians, Afghani's, ect.?

I own a horse and I've helped rescue many horses from horrible situations, when the economy tanked & there were no slaughter houses available in the US, the following happened: Horses were dumped in the desert, consequently, they starved to death. Horses were taken to "Kill auctions" & were sold for meat to Mexico & Canada, this meant shipping these poor animals long distances, crammed into trailers, where they went without food or water for days, some of the horses were dead when they arrived, the ones who were still alive were subjected to slaughter without the FDA guidelines.
So, is slaughter a "necessary evil" ? UNTIL WE STOP UNSCRUPULOUS BREEDING PRACTICES & THE GOVERNMENT STEPS IN TO LIMIT & CONTROL THE BREEDING OF "ALL" DOMESTIC ANIMALS - THEN WE NEED SLAUGHTER HOUSES. JUST LIKE ANIMAL SHELTERS WHERE THOUSANDS OF DOGS AND CATS ARE MURDERED EVERY DAY *********
