We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

What type of world do we live in when an innocent life is put in a plastic bag and thrown from a speeding car as if it were trash? There is a special place in hell for people like these that would do something so outright EVIL! I hope when these monsters are found that they are put in a plastic bag and thrown from a speeding car, but instead of finding them and rushing them to a hospital they suffer the fate of this innocent dog, over and over again. Just when I think the world can not get anymore violent I read a story like this. And to think of all the situations we are unaware of? It would have been so much easier for the person or persons to drop the puppy off at a vets or animal shelter but to show the evil in there heart they did what they did. I hope they burn in hell for eternity! And all my prayers and hopes to this beautiful and awesome puppy, now that I and others send our love and prayers and money to help your recovery.

I think that the comment "people from Long Island are stupid" should be REMOVED because it is upsetting and angering to everyone who reads it. I truly hope it is removed so we can continue to pray for this defenseless little puppy in peace.

If this person is throwing puppies out like they are trash, imagine how they must treat other people as well. Anyone who is capable of purposely harming another living thing with no remorse has some serious issues. Those people aren't just hurting innocent animals, they are loose in our towns and cities as criminals. The punishment for animal cruelty should be much, much more severe. These people are dangerous. It starts with crazy kids killing animals...then they get older and come after people too.

Poor Joey. I hope they find who ever did this. Animals have feeling too and they don't deserve this kind of treatment!

on every electrical pole in Brentwood and in the all close towns: Hauppauge, Islip, Islandia, Commack.

GREAT FOR ASPCA!!! FINALLY, A higher reward amount to capture and prosecute the worthless person/s responsible! I get SO sick of seeing these stupid little $1,000 rewards! I am extremely serious when I say I wish to win the lottery (especially a huge jackpot like $300M) so I could put up like $50,000 or more for a reward! I won't tolerate idiots like this and neither should our country! Absolutely NO reason for cruelty! This is the biggest most extreme violation of such a natural trust between dog and man! This person needs to be bagged, dragged, thrown from a car then sent to prison to rot!

If you are capable of doing this to an innocent puppy you have no soul...end of story, you have no soul.

We had a similar thing happen around Baltimore last month. Luckily for Hershey, the put bull puppy that was thrown from a truck into a trash heap, the person behind the truck rescued him and turned him over to the Rescue group I volunteer with. He is now healthy and up for adoption thru that group. This is a horrible problem with pitbull puppies. I pray Joey recovers from his injuries, and if I could have more than 2 dogs, I would take him in a heartbeat! God Bless you Joey! I know a forever home will be found for you thru the ASPCA?

The laws have to be more servere for the cruelty, animals are like children they depend on us to take care of them. Would they throw a baby from a car. People are just sick. We live in a cruel world. I hope the good Lord takes notes on how each and every person that harms a precious creatures that he has gifted to us. I pray that Joey recovers and can have a healthy happy life that he deserves. Bless you and the person that found this little baby.
