We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

It is great that a reward is offered & hopefully, it will lead to a conviction. I would like to see the punishment be harsher. All states can be different. What is the minimum & max that this animal abuser can recieve IF convicted? In California, if they do any prison time, if won't be locked up for much more than one year. Even if somone gets convicted of five counts for the abuse/death of 5 animals & gets could get a 10 year sentence (locked up for at least five years), the judge could run the counts concurrent and he/she can do as little as one year locked up. A child molester can get a three years sentence, possession of marijuana-four years and burglary-five years. Who else thinks this is wrong. Are our children and pets less important then our possessions or the fight on drugs? The sentence a convicted child molester or animal abuser should be dramtically increased. These SICK people should be off the streets forever to protect the innocent. But that's just my opinion.

I would say whoever did this was a bot that was born to be a man. However, this is nothing more than 1. A bot that is still seeking HER place ijn this life
2. A boy that thinks hes a big boy that wears big Girl panties.

3. Come to Texas and let me see you do something like that, little girl, and I'll show you why they say everything is Bisser in TEXAS...

PLEASE STICK TO THE SUBJECT OF JOEY!!!!! All of our energy right now needs to be directed toward his welfare, and his recovery!!!
Please pray for him, and for the gracious, good people who are caring for him and trying to bring the bad ones to justice!!
I would adopt this brave little guy if I were in NY...I hope his caregivers take special care in finding him the best home possible, when he is ready. Glad he is alive, and in kind hands!

well I'm glad somebody found joey before it was too late. She is in good hands and being well cared for.Unfortunately there is animal abusers all over the country. I just heard of a story in nashville TN where somebody's dog got out and one of her neighbors was walking by, and the dog was not doing anything to provoke the neighbor. She was wagging her tail and just trying to say hi and the neighbor threw hot coffee in the dogs face. Now when the neighbor did this the dog reacted, but did not bite anybody. anyway the neighbors wanted the dog to be put down, but luckily that didn't happen. The only sad part is that the dog could not go back to the owner because the neighbors did not want the dog living next door to them. But what I'm trying to say is they threw hot coffee in an animals face and did not get fined or punished in anyway. That is what's sad! To many animal abusers go free without punishment! This person who threw joey out the window needs to be punished! If this person did this to a poor defenseless animal I would hate to see what they would to to a person!

we have a pit x rescued from abadonment I would not have chosen but she is part of our lives and deserves to be loved - this has to stop - strong measures put in place to curtial breeding is needed so epedemic discarding by uneducated people does not continue.

All Cruelty needs to stop, whether it be to a human, or an animal or what have you. The world needs more compassion and evil doers need more consequences and punishment.

Judi

What a story!! Thanks to ALL of you who helped this young dog; I love you!!
Please keep us posted as to how he is doing. Thanks!

I pray that this puppy heals fine, and the person that inflicted this pain on this innocent animal be severely punished!!! I agree with the others who feel the same way. Cruelty and mistreatment of any animal is WRONG and shall not be tolerated!!!

Denise

We all need to pray because there is a growing apathy for everything nowdays, whether animal or human. It is very frightening. I pray that the puppy finds a very loving home to make him forget this horror.
