We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

Disgusted

The subject line says it all... this goes for anyone else who would do this, or any other sort of despicable thing!

If there is no consequence, I mean major, the there is no conscious. Someone stated above that if they abuse animals they will abuse anything. I agree. Just becuase their lives are in a form of an animal doesn't make it less important. A Life is a life. The charges and punishement against anyone for abusing an animal should be extreme. No level in between. Abusers should be made an example of and the punishment should be broadcasted to the world to let other abusers know they can't get away with doing evil things to animals. But what makes me the saddest is that you don't know about the abuse until cases like this become public! By then an animal would have endeared who knows how much abuse, or it may be too late for some. Please continue the fine work you are doing. Maybe one the day that the most an animal will have to worry about is how soon their owners will get home to give them a big hug!

This not only sickens me but angers me! I would love to find this low life scum bag and let him/her know how I feel! To whoever did this, Karma is staring you in the face and I am right behind! There is a reservation in hell fou U! Little Joey, prayers sent your way, No animal deserves to be treated like this! The person who did this will be caught, real soon!

Sandra

I am both sad / angry with this story. I dont understand how people can be so cruel to animals. They could have just dropped him off at the nearest shelter rather than throwing him out of a car windown. I do hope someone saw this and was able to take down a license plate so they catch these this inhumane person/s.
My heart goes out to Joey and hopefully he will have a full recovery.

I really hope they catch whoever did this. If you don't want an animal find it another home or surrender it but to do what this person did is beyond cruel. Its just down right evil. I hope little Joey recovers nicely and finds a great forever home. God bless our pets!

Thats is one of the worst stories I heard. The perp should be thrown out of a helicopter.

WHY would anyone do this to a helpless animal? Take them to a shelter but don't toss them out like garbage. Poor little guy. I hope they find you and wish they'd toss you out of a moving vehicle on your ass so you could see how it feels.

~GET WELL, JOEY~....There are MANY in this WORLD who would LOVE to LOVE you! May they do the SAME to the CRIMINAL(S) when they find them???

Prayers for your recovery sweet Joey. I dont understand how anyone could ever hurt a sweet loving animal. Breaks my heart!

We all know there are cruel people out there, we see it everyday. Why are you focusing your comments on them? You are just giving them more "power". Instead focus good thought on Joey and all of the others that fall victim to this cruelty. My heart goes out to you little guy!!!!!
