We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

It doesn't matter if your rich or poor, it all stems down to there is no accountability for our actions. We are a throw away nation, it's to old toss it & by new even though it's still good, water from a tap; really just buy a plastic bottle & then toss it into the dump. Unfortunatly this also goes for a living, breathing being; a poor defenseless dog. Shame on you who did this & shame on us for allowing our world to get so out of control. We must teach our kids the 10 conmandments again.

So Animal Lovers, how are we going to write this wrong! One saving Grace, Joey is getting the best care that he possibly can. I have gone to this emergency center on numerous occassions, they are high tech, round the clock, professionals with one common goal the pets welfare. They have saved numerous dogs lives, including my dog's twice. So Joey, your begining was rough but you are in the care of angels now who will have your back! We can all make it better by donating to Joey's care. Joey is at VMCLI 75 Sunrise HWY, West Islip, NY 11795-2033 Phone 631 587 0800.

My prayers go out to Joey. Thank you for helping him out. Sadly the world is filled with cruel people but luckily there are caring people still left!

My prayers xoxo

Looking at that sad face in that picture just turns my stomach and makes me want to cry. My prayers are with him and all abused animals, and if he's looking for a good loving home after all this I'll give him one.

I really hope the reward is beging aired on all local media and repeatedly so that whoever knows about this horrific act will step forward, if not for integrity alone, then for the lure of the almighty dollar...whatever it takes to find the criminal(s). The person(s) who perpetrated this evil act likely fit(s) into the mold of someone without remorse, crude, and, clearly, criminal. Since there are also bite marks on the puppy's neck (noted on the nightly news), it's also likely this puppy was used as bait for dogfighting...look at who would do this, i.e., souless individuals just out to make a buck (i.e., street thugs). I hope the police are canvassing appropriate areas and questioning everyone, but who knows how involved they really are when it comes to animal cruelty. Those who commit despicable acts against animals are very likely to do the same to humans, so the police should be out in full force and put a stop to dog fighting once and for all. Saying prayers for Joey.

I pray Joey will get his truly special forever home where he will be loved and spoiled. I wish I could adopt every animal that doesn't have a home, and I know that's not possible, but my heart breaks every time I see or hear something like this. Our society has just sunk into selfishness with no consideration for anyone.

My heart breaks for Joey, but know that he is in the best hands possible, The ASPCA. God Bless You All.

Poor little soul. I hope that the person is caught and tortured just like this poor little puppy.

This little guy looks so sweet. He will be in my thoughts and prayers, I am so sad this sweet little creature was treated this way. If there is a God in Heaven, let his vengence strike this person and his family dead and let them burn in a lake of fire for all eternity. It is stuf like this that makes me hate the human race and wish we never existed.
