We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

This one here really got my attention and really is very disturbing just because of the level and the severity of the cruelty. There are some people out there that just don't have any regard for animals or their vulnerability or how they look up to us. I'm glad that they're are great organizations out there like the ASPCA that help prevent things like this and that offer funding to help the victims. It may not be the legal thing to do but if I ever see anybody abusing an animal not only will it be calling the police but they will also be beat to hell by the time they get there and I will gladly go to jail for the rightful cause. Best wishes Joey.

My sincerest sympathies go out to Joey. I hope he is resting comfortably. Thank you for working to find the abuser of this poor puppy. Such a terrible act of cruelty!

I know the ASPCA will heal Joey. The laws in this country for animals should be as severe as people. Stricter laws is the only way this will stop. It makes me cry that people are this awful and do these things . . . animals are so loving, so much more than people. I'll take Joey, he needs someone to be thankful for him everyday. Be well Joey, hugs and kisses forever

Dearest Joey, I hope God will bless you with good health and a warm adopted family where you will be loved and not abused. No one deserves that type of cruelty, whoever did this to you may be punished 1000 times harder. God bless ASPCA and everyone who is working hard to save your life and catch the monsters who did this to you, sending you a big hug :)

Get well soon joey.... Im so sick of these people that cause harm to animals, if its nothing for them to do this to a living animal imagen what they would do to a human .... Wish that person the worst in life ..... Karma is beatiful so you will get yours....

If anyone locates this sub-human, let me know of his whereabouts. I have a bag and will take care of him.

This makes me ill!Let's bring him to the Jones Beach Theatre, fill the seats with ASPCA supporters, put him on the stage and stone him for all to see (and enjoy)! Then we can put him in a plastic bag and throw him in the ocean. Oh, never mind that part, I wouldn't want to pollute the waters...

You are in good hands now,

Ally

I pray justice is done for this sweet little angel and all the other little angels like Joey. I know he will get through this and find a sweet loving home (I would adopt him in a heartbeat)!!! It makes me so angry there are monsters out there doing stuff like this but thank goodness for all the animal lovers out there who can overpower these ignorant cold hearted things because they are NOT people. Xoxo to Joey

Heather

I cry for Joey and wish I could help him and others like him more. I do not understand humans and how they can be so hateful to something so helpless. I hope they find the person who has done this and nail him to the wall. I think harsher punishments for animal abuse should be forced. Best wishes to Joey and I will do my part to help others like Joey.
