We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

This has brought tears to my eyes and hurts my heart how people can do such a thing...

He is so adorable! God bless him! Hope he gets better SOON.

I am always dumbfounded how people call dogs cats and all pets animals.....l think many humans fall into that catgory....maybe something to think about. I have four male pit bull reescues, cats as well as a parrot rescue, sad sad stories all over. The poor pits get the brunt of everyones mistreatment and the bad rap from people being animals. lots of love and prays for baby Joey....hopefully he recovers fully with a beautifully loving family and the creature that hurt him oneday (soon) is brought to justice and justice is not blind that day!!!!! Pray for karma that brave forgiving little boy can use some!!!! TAILS WAGS AND MILKBONES KISSES JOEY....AND SPEEDY RECOVERY FOR YOU LITTLE GUY

Hate to read things like this is VERY DEPRESING ! We can only do so much. And discussing people like this one always will be. Let's just hope Joey finds a great home that he deserves. And to the horrible guy, gal who did this. Hope they catch him, her and pay the consequences!!!!!!!!! Big time!

Someone asked why a person would do such a thing. There are IGNORANT/MEAN PEOPLE in this world and you cannot change them. They have been raised by IGNORANT/MEAN PEOPLE and it keeps going down the line. They would never have an intelligent thought in their brains to 'just take the dog to a shelter and tell the shelter they just can't take care of the dog.' What is so sad is that you just can't change people. They either have compassion in them, or they don't. What is even sadder, they would do the same thing to a child, and probably are abusing their children if they have any.

Howard Stern and his wife Beth do wonderful work with the North Shore Animal League in NY. Maybe he can share this story on his show for some leads to who may have done such a horrific thing.
