We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

I am so happy to know that the ASPCA is helping this poor little guy, and I truly hope that someone can find the horrible person who hurt this puppy. If they are found, let's make sure that they are penalized to the fully extent possible. These acts of cruelty are intolerable and must stop now!

I feel that penalties are far to lenient for these morons that would do horrible things to God's litthe creatures. God bless Joey and I hope he finds a nice home. Here in Texas there are a lot of folks who would love Joey in their home.

I am so sorry you had to be subjected to such cruelty Joey. My heart and love are with you. As for the imbasilic moron who did this to you, may he burn in hell!!!

The person who did this should be locked up permanantly. They don't deserve to live freely among the human race. They have proven they cannot be trusted and it is not safe to allow them to live among people, children and animals. They have no respect for life and enjoy inflicting pain and suffering on others. When they catch this person or persons the should be punished to the full extent of the law. Unfortunately even that won't be enough because you can't change people like this. They are ignorant, evil and not very intelligent. I'd be surprised if they made it past the first grade. You can be sure this isn't the first time this monster has done something like this and unless they catch him/her it won't be the last.

I GET SO ANGRY AND THIS BREAKS MY HEART WHEN I HEAR ABOUT THIS KIND OF TREATMENT TO AN INNOCENT ANIMAL THAT IS MAN'S BEST FRIEND. I TRUELY HOPE THAT THE PERSON WHO DID THIS IS FOUND AND IS PROSECUTED TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW AND IF HE OR SHE ISN'T FOUND GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF THIS ONE DAY AND THE PUNISHMENT WILL FIT THE CRIME. GOD BLESS JOEY AND I WISH HIM A SPEEDY RECOVERY. WHAT A PRECIOUS BABY. HUGS AND KISSES FROM MY FAMILY AND MY 2 PUPPIES- BAILEY AND COOPER.

All of our love to Joey and wishes for a speedy recovery. What is the diagnosis for the damaged vertebrae? Will the injury effect his ability to walk/run? Please keep us posted.

Hopes and prayers that the care little Joey is now receiving will -- eventually -- wipe the sadness and despair from his eyes.
We are caretakers on our Planet. Bless him and may he heal well. If anyone witnessed this crime, please come forward and report it.
