We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

One of the main problems in this country is a judicial system that views pets as property instead of the loving family members they are. I wish the best for Joey in his recovery & in a way am glad that he is away from the insensitive people who made him suffer. Hope he finds a loving family that will care for him & treat him with kindness & respect.

I pray that God sends a loving family to take Joey home and give him the love that he deserves. Hugs to Joey and this future family.

It is inconceivable how a person could do this to a living thing. Sickening. I hope the reward leads to the apprehension and conviction of this so called person. Thank God he is in good hands now and thanks to the person who found him and got him help.

PLEASE WHO EVER DONE THIS TO THIS LITLE ANGEL, GETS THE SAME TREATMENT. SPENDING TIME IN JAIL DOESN'T HELP THE PUPPY DEVISTATION..HE OR SHE HOULD BE FIRMLY PUNISHED.AND IF ANYONE KNOWS OF THIS CRUELTY SHOULD GIVE SOME OF THE REWARD MONEY BACK TO HELP THAT POOR ANGEL.

There are cruel people everywhere!!! This poor sad puppy just needs someone to love him!! These people will be reprimanded at some point because what goes around will come around again. I just hope that Joey pulls through and finds a forever home!! Even though he is a pit bull it doesn't matter the breed we all need someone to love us. A dog is a dog and they all need loving the humans are the ones that give pit bulls a bad name so please just go out and support your local shelter or ASPCA!!!!

Joey we love your sweet, kind face. Your are in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. Please don't think the entire human race is as bad as the people who did this to you. We LOVE you! You are one of God's precious children. xoxox

People, there are cruel people everywhere. I live in Colorado and this kind of crap happens here too. Instead of bickering amongst yourselves about where stupid people are, lets put all that energy into praying for this little dog to get healthy and find a good home. I believe in the Karma comment. If that person is never caught he or she will theirs someday
