We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

Goodness gracious little angel, you are so cute. God sent someone to save you. What a menthally disturbed beast could do something like that to a little pup like you. If they do that to a beauty like you ...(those eyes) are afraid and don´t understand what happened. Then, that creep could do it to a child. Please, speak out if anyone saw something, a child could be in danger too. Thank God nothing worst happened. But it could be happening right now.Speak please if you saw something. Please keep me updated.

I hope there is a special place in Hell for anyone who abuses defenseless animals and children. Bless you for helping and my husband and I add are prayers! We are proud parents of 6 "rescued cats" and he volunteers a day at our local shelter. We also support 4 children overseas. We are a "rich" nation compared to the third world. Abuse should not be part of an animal's or child's life anywhere but especially when there are wonderful people to help!

Folks, my first reaction is to agree completely with all the dire consequences we'd like to see fall upon the head of those who did this to a defenseless puppy. However, we must be careful that we don't fall into the trap of being as violent and brutal as they are. A man here in Dallas threw lighter fluid on a puppy and set him on fire. My reaction was that the same should be done to him, but then I had to ask myself - who is going to light the match? I knew I couldn't do it. Thank God, because that would make me just as brutal as he is. There has to be another answer, and until one comes along, I guess prison is the best we can do. As someone said, it will be no picnic for them, because the other prisoners have a way of taking care of animal abusers and child molesters.

the asshole who threw this poor baby out the window of a moving car needs to be tied to the back of a car going 80mph down a highway and see how they like it, if they live to tell about it. Animal and child abusers need to be hurt so bad to where they beg for death.

Dan

I trully hope this waste of a human is found, and i would risk my license ti go tripple the speed limit and trow him out of the window.
Poor puppy. Some people are worse than animals.

Michelle

Hunt them down and exterminate them. We need to rid our planet of this evil.

I think we should petition for Michael Vick to come out and do a Press Conference denouncing this and all animal abuse. What does everyone think about that?

This is appalling! What is wrong with our society that people think it's acceptable to treat animals like trash? I hope the person (people) who did this are found -and quickly- and punished appropriately. Thank you to the ASPCA for being there for this poor pup!
