We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

Heavenly Father,
Please help us in our time of need,
You have made us stewards of Joey.
If it is Your will, please restore him
to health and strength.
I pray too for other animals in need.
May they be treated with the care and respect
deserving of all Your creation.
Blessed are You Lord God,
and holy is Your name for ever and ever, Amen

what the hell is wrong with people. Drop him off at a shelter if you don't want to properly care for him. I would like to do the same to them! Its like the case in SC where someone put a plastic bottle on a dogs head with holes for air only and left him on the side of the road. What is gained by that???? Cruelty at its finest. Poor baby- hoping for fast healing :) and the chance to have a real home that loves him.

You will find a good home that you truly deserve. Hope they catch whoever did this sooner and punish them to the fullest extent of the law. Praying for your quick recovery. You are now surrounded by love and always will be.

God Bless you, Baby. Someone is going to love you and you will have a good life. Now just rest and get better. I am praying for you.

God Bless You ASPCA. This is exactly why I donate to you every month. For helping little animals that want nothing more than to be loved. I cannot believe such cruelty!!!!! I hope little Joey reeovers and finds a LOVING home.

I really hope they catch the perps because I have a hunch that since this is a pitbull they could be the kind of people who could be running a dogfighting ring. Maybe they disposed of this poor innocent dog because they thought he wouldn't grow up to be a fighter.. I know that's speculation, but I just never overestimate dogfighting types...

my dog is 9 years old now and i got him about 8 and 1/2 years ago from a shelter when someone threw him from a car window as well. he was scared and ran around a college campus for 15 days before he could be caught. He has been the best thing that has happened to me since I got him. No behavior issues (other than a bit protective at times which is understandable after what he went through), completely house trained, loyal and protective of his owners more than anyone could imagine. My appreciation of him has led me to become a vegan and animal advoacate and he has truely changed my life. My point is that people can be idiots - They would disregard and dispose of a a dog who they deemed worthless without any remorse. in my case he turned out to be such a priceless asset. I am sure that will be the case with JOey. Unfortunately they never found the a-holes that threw my dog out of the car so i really hope they find them in this case.

Look at that precious, sweet innocent face. Why would anyone do that?? That's as bad as throwing a human out of a window. If you didn't want him take him to a shelter UNHARMED and give him to someone that cares to take him. I pray that he will be okay and God Bless the Medical Center in Long Island for taking care of him and the person that heard him crying and got him help. I would love to take him home when he's better and treat him the way he should be, he has feelings just like a human and feels pain just the same. He should feel nothing but love. I hope they find who did this and they deserve to be punished. Joey....keep getting better and I hope you find the love you deserve from a loving family.

I am angered and saddened that any human being could abuse any animal and toss it out like yesterday's trash. I am praying for Joey's recovery and future use of all four of his limbs and that the monster who did this is found and prosecuted.
