We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

Does anyone know how Joey is doing? Are his injuries life-threatening? Will he fully recover? Broken neck vertebrae sounds permamnent---I'm hoping they can be fully repaired but will they even try to restore a normal quality of life?

Is there any info on the person responsible for tying the 3 dogs to a train track in PA (I think)_ while filming them being hit by a train? How is the one who survived?

We are praying for you, that God will heal your wounds, and we can catch the people that did this to you so we can throw them out the window of a moving car.

I’m appalled! I don’t understand why people get an animal if they don’t really want one, or like them! It’s a privilege to have a pet and I consider myself lucky that I have such wonderful pets in my life. This low life is an idiot, who probably has done this before and will do it again. I’m sure the person CAN’T read! And if he can read, I hope he sees these comments and know how much I’d like to throw HIM out of a window!

Yes, this is a terrible act of senseless cruelty. I hope the pup pulls through. Companion animals need MORE than our prayers and well-wishes, our outrage and sympathy. They needs HOMES. There are far too many animals without a place to call home, without shelter, care and food. Please talk with any pet owners you know and recommend they SPAY OR NEUTER their companion animal. REPORT any suspected abuse or neglect promptly, and consider giving a home to a rescue animal. If we all care so much, let's show it by teaching children that companion animals are not objects that can be misused and thrown away. The only way to change the world we live in is to raise conscientious, compassionate human beings with a respect for all life.

Please find the dispicable jerk who did this to poor sweet little Joey! I hope he is OK. Please keep us posted on his condition and outcome. Also let us know if they find who did this. Put the one responsible in jail for a long, long time!

That is so sad and so wrong!

This is horrible. I really hope he does well. Here in Fort Madison Iowa our shelter has had 2 animals brought to us that had been thrown from a car. The people behind them stopped and got the animal and brought them to use. One was a young kitten and the other was a young pregnant beagle who had babies about 2 days latter.
