We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

I saw this case on Facebook from an organization called Pet Pardons. I called the facility directly and spoke with a very nice woman who informed me Joey is doing so much better. I did donate to the facility. These disgusting people that consider themselves humans are not. Someone should throw them from a car after being chewed and tormented. I hope these pieces of garbage are caught.

I know a dog is an animal and a human being is made in the image of God. When a human being commits an atrocity like this, they are menaces to our society and should be locked up and never released again. If there was anyway they could change that's different. The only way I know someone can "really" change is through Christ's Spirit living in them. What they did I despise and would like to see them suffer the same disdain, callousness and cruelty. I hate their actions. However, not only does "Joey" need prayer as he is the precious little victim, so does the perpertrator of this evil. Pray that God will grant him repentance.

This comment epitomizes my sentiments exactly. The person (s) responsible for this tragedy and heinous crime deserve the EXACT SAME TREATMENT only I hope that is their demise. They don't deserve to live, be on this planet. They will have ill will become them. You wait and see. There are too many animal lovers that will absolutely NOT tolerate these inhumane and senseless acts.

This just disturbs me. I feel so terrible for that poor puppy. My dog was a rescue that they believe was thrown from a moving car also. He was covered in scabs and what they believe was road rash. It just tugs at my heart. Hopefully he recovers and finds a good home.

I will never understand how a person could do such a thing to a poor puppy. When a person doesn't want a baby, they tell you to leave the baby at a hospital, police, church etc. Well the same with an animal. Don't discard and throw away like trash. You take the animal somewhere, like a Vet, somewhere they foster pets. You give the animal a chance at life. Just because you don't want the animal, I am sure there is someone out there that does. I don't know how the person that did this to Joey can lay their head at night. You should be ashamed of yourself and I pray to God you are found, If you could do this to a helpless animal, I'd hate to think what you could do to a another human being.

May Joey have a speedy recovery and be placed in a loving home where he can receive the care and love he deserves. I pray those who did this to him are caught and brought to justice for for their hideous act.

Unfortunately there are many people out there like the ones that threw the puppy out the window. Four newborn kittens were found in a washtub soaking wet in the rain and the blanket they were on was soaked. They were left at a gas station next to a pump so they wouldn't be seen doing it. We bottle fed them for three days and then one by one they came down with pneumonia. I've raised kittens before but the vet said they were too young to be cold for so long. They should have taken them to a vet's office. I know the SPCA and Humane Society can't take them until they are older, but there are a lot of people who will foster. Good look puppy! We're praying for you!
