We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

I just opened my email and this is what I saw. These are ANGELS to come and love and help us be better people. Seeing this I AM overcome overcome with sadness and inner calm RAGE. I just lost my beloved little buddy two an a half months ago and am still overcome with grief. I will say this publically that if I were able to get my hands on the beast who did this to that little dog I would not hesitate to kill him with my bare hands after making him/her beg for their miserable lives. This is an awful sad condition the world is in. Despite my many blessings, I look forward with anticipation and in the spirit of exploration to my very last day on earth. I'm tired of the fact that cruelty, nastiness, stupidity, greed, etc. is constantly in your face, but the love isn't. I was always the eternal optimist, now more of realist since lately a got a very large glimpse of reality's gaping maw. In the meantime, I have to find a way to help these helpless angels while still on Mother Earth. They give you love, joy, happiness, silliness, fun-all the things we all need for a wonderful life. But, anyone who would hurt, exploit, enslave, abuse etc a dog, cat or any other innocent helpless creature would have to be permanently removed. Quite a dilemma. The site of a dog, cat etc being hurt has become the norm. What has happened to us? God bless that little puppy and all the other wonderful creatures and God help us because the way I see it, with the exception of all the good people, the human experiment has failed miserably.

what kind of sick person would do that to a baby. I hope they are found and prosecuted! Wonder what they would feel like being thrown from a car?

colleen fraser

Praying that Joey gets well and finds the loving forever home he deserves. These days animals are more loving, loyal and compassionate then many so-called "humans"!!

What could a puppy do to deserve this..too bad the person wasn't thrown form the car instead...All the puppy ever wants is to be loved is that so hard?

I read this this morning and cried for almost a half hour. I have 3 rescue dogs, all with fear issues. They are the most loving dogs I have ever had. Pits get a bad wrap bc they are so loyal and protective of anyone who is loyal and protective of them. The people who did this better not ever cross my path. They are not people and should not be treated as such. Disgusting.

Pease I AM a great animal lover I HVE wrtten to you numerous times I am a woman on disability and I take care of 20 feral cats. Please I am hoping the puppy is alright. this is what sick people do, this is what the world has come too. Alot of people don't know God and don't have a heart and don;t realize one day they will pay for these horrible things they do. These kind of people take all their abuse out on animals because animals can't fight back and that is why they abuse animals. I pray you find these creeps , it was probably some heartless game . I wish more could be done to stop this horrible cruelty to these defenseless animals who are only loving beautiful creatures and here to give us that love
I pray this puppy gets a home filled with love and pray that this animal cruelty will stop once and for all.
I thank people like the Aspca who care, because all I see is people that don't care, and I am beginning to hate this world.

Punishment should fit the crime. Those who are cruel to these defenseless creatures should be subjected to the same punishment. Let them see how it feels to be thrown out of a moving car (in a plastic bag)! No tolerance!! People who abuse animals are likely to go on and be abusive spouses. We need to nip this in the bud. I'm so angry about this!!!!!

I say when they catch whoever did this they take them up in a plane, open the side door, and throw them out!

God and the angels are watching over you Joey! We're all praying for you, and we know you'll get better.

There is a place in hell for anyone who could do such a thing. Dog fighting/using living things as bait/all of this is unthinkable to most humans.

There is a special place in Hell for people like this.
