We are devastated to report that a three-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Joey was thrown from a car in Brentwood, Long Island, on Saturday. A witness found the tiny 10-pound pup in a plastic bag near the Sagtikos State Parkway, covered in fleas and crying out for help. Joey suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and is recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

The ASPCA is offering a reward of $15,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. This reward is in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Suffolk County SPCA. We are also providing a $10,000 grant to the Veterinary Medical Center to offset some of the costs of treating and caring for Joey.

“We were both outraged and saddened to hear about this disturbing case of violent abuse, and the callousness that was demonstrated by those responsible,” says Matt Bershadker, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Group. “While our ultimate hope is that these types of heinous acts never occur, this is a message that cruelty toward animals will not be tolerated. We are pleased to be in a position to help those who are helping Joey.”

If you have information related to Joey’s case, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA by calling (631) 382-7722.

It disgusts me to know that there are cruel people out there that do not have any knowing as to how precious life is, any life at all. We must fight to stop all the cruelty that there is in the world and never give up.

What a poor excuse for a human. Jail is getting off too easy- this person needs to suffer, just like Joey is. With all the resources available, such as shelters, rescues, etc., there is no excuse for this type of cruelty. I truly wish death on that person!

I just hate when people do things like that. Was that really necessary??? If you can not keep a pet you try to place him/her in a new home or something, you dont throw them away like garbage!!!! These people dont deserve to be called human as they have NO soul!!!! I hope you can find them and put them in jail.

"I was very upset to hear this horrible happening on the news and just want to say, to those who think throwing animals out of a car or other means of cruelty as being "funny" or whatever "sick" thoughts someone who would do such a thing, is very, very sick themselves, and should seek help...as for Joey, "all my love, and prayers go out to you Joey, and I hope someone, "with a Kind Heart" will adopt you and give you what all God's Creatures deserve, a good home and LOTS OF LOVE!
BLESSINGS TO YOU JOEY!!!!

When they catch the people who did this, and they will, the punishment should fit the crime. They should be beaten and thrown from a moving car.

Kellie

I have no words, Joey my heart goes out to you.
